UCCS Hosts Division I Northern Colorado for Wednesday Doubleheader

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs will host an active Division I member for the first time in program history in a Wednesday doubleheader with Northern Colorado at Mountain Lion Field. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.

UCCS (14-21) previously hosted Utah Valley State in the 2004 season in the Wolverines' first year of transition to Division I. The Mountain Lions last played a Division I team in 2012 when UCCS traveled to Northern Colorado (11-20-1) for a single game in the 2012 season. The game will count for overall statistics and records for both teams.

The Mountain Lions are 7-3 at home this season, but will be playing at home for the first time in 17 days. Wednesday's games start a six-game home stretch for UCCS, who will be hosting Fort Lewis and Colorado Mines on Saturday and Sunday in the final home games of the season.

Dani Fonseca continues to lead the RMAC with 12 home runs this season and is tied for ninth in program season records. She is one home run away from the most for a Mountain Lion since the 2009 season and from tying for seventh in program records. Fonseca is also two home runs away from tying for No. 10 in the UCCS career record books.

Emily Jennings improved her career hits total to 176 last weekend and needs five hits to tie for ninth in program records. She is leading the Mountain Lions with a .388 batting average and a .471 on-base percentage. Jennings is one home run away from entering the top five career records in UCCS history with 31 homers in her career.

Northern Colorado is coming off a 2-1 weekend at Montana and is fourth in the Big Sky Conference this season. Melissa Marcovecchio is leading the Bears with a .337 batting average and a .545 batting average, while Jayme Reddacliff leads the pitching staff with a 3.60 earned run average and a 7-12 record.

Live stats and live audio will be available for both games for free at GoMountainLions.com. Charlie Botnick will call the play-by-play action.
