UCCS Takes on Tarleton in Top 10 National Matchup

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs will face its third straight nationally-ranked team in the Second Round of the NCAA Division II Tournament when the No. 10 Mountain Lions (27-5) face No. 7 and the region's top seed Tarleton State (28-3). The team will tip off at 6:30 p.m., MDT, at Wisdom Gymnasium on the Tarleton State campus.

UCCS won its first NCAA tournament game last night 90-87 against Colorado School of Mines. Derrick White broke the UCCS single-game scoring record with 50 points and improved his program-record season total to 832 points. He is tied for the most in a single season in RMAC history and needs one point to break the record set by Colorado Mesa's Jon Baskin in the 1990-91 season.

Tarleton State won 71-52 in its first round game last night against St. Mary's. Devene Carter led the Texans with 21 points and six rebounds. The Texans have one of the best defenses in Division II this season with the third-best scoring defense. Tarleton State also ranks fifth in three-point defense and seventh in overall field goal defense.

On the flip side, UCCS has one of the best offenses in Division II this season. The Mountain Lions are seventh in field goal percentage and ninth in scoring offense. White had the third-best scoring average in Division II before last night's game and is leading the nation in total points.

UCCS is the only remaining RMAC team and is with three Lone Star Conference teams. The first game tonight will be between Midwestern State and Angelo State in a meeting of the No. 7 and No. 6 seeds, respectively. Angelo State defeated No. 3 Texas A&M-Commerce, while Midwestern State defeated No. 2 MSU Denver. Tarleton State and UCCS are the only remaining teams who won either a regular season or tournament conference championship this season. Angelo was the regular season and tournament runner-up, and Midwestern State was the third-place team in the regular season.

Fans will be able to follow the action for free with live stats, live audio and live video. Clyde's will not be open tonight past its regular Sunday closing time of 6 p.m., for tonight's game viewing.
