COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team will take on the weather and the competition for the second straight weekend when the Mountain Lions (3-4 / 1-1 RMAC) travel to Colorado Mesa (7-8 / 2-0 RMAC) for a four-game series. The series is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., today at the CMU Softball Field.
The Mountain Lions battled weather last weekend and got a split in against Adams State to open the conference season before weather cancelled the rest of the series. UCCS came back from a 9-4 deficit after the top of the fifth inning to win 13-10 in eight innings in the second game against the Grizzlies.
Lexi Belligan went three-of-six at the plate in the series to lead the offense while
Stephanie Chitkowski earned the win in the second game in her second relief appearance of the day.
UCCS has the third-best slugging percentage in the RMAC at .471, and
Kylie Barnard has a 1.000 percentage with two home runs and two doubles.
Whitney Weber is fifth in the conference with a .476 batting average. The duo also lead the league in on-base percentage, with Barnard at .636 and Weber at .577.
The Mountain Lions have played less than half the number of games as Colorado Mesa this season. The Mavericks were able to get three games in last weekend against Colorado School of Mines in games played in Pueblo, Colo., before the final game was cancelled due to weather. Colorado Mesa has the second-best batting average in the conference at .338 as a team and has scored more than 100 runs in its 15 games.
Fans will be able to follow the game with live stats through Colorado Mesa and live video through America One Sports.
