Mountain Lions Break Team & Individual Records for Second Straight Day

AVONDALE, Ariz. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's golf team broke both the individual and team records it set yesterday and improved to ninth in the final round of the Western New Mexico Fall Invitational today at the Coldwater Golf Club. The Mountain Lions improved their team score from yesterday by six strokes to 305 off of Michelle Romano's 73.

Romano recorded birdies on holes 5 and 10 to finish at 1-over par for the fifth-best score today among the 84 golfers. She beat Alex Darwin's previous individual program record of 75 yesterday, which Darwin improved on with a 74 in today's round. Darwin finished in a tie for No. 15 in the overall standings with 149, a nine-stroke improvement off her season-best tournament score.

Andrea Ballou lowered her season-best tournament score by five strokes with a 154 (76-78) and tied for No. 35. Racquell Castillo improved by two strokes over yesterday's round with an 80 today for the final Mountain Lion team score today. Castillo recorded a 162 in the two rounds and tied for No. 59 in the overall standings with Jamie Zook (78-84).

UCCS will continue the fall season next week at the second RMAC event at Colorado Mesa. The Mavericks will host at Bookcliff Country Club in Grand Junction, Colo., on Sept. 29-30.
