Alex Darwin shot a program-record 76 and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs shot a 314 to break the team record for a round by 10 strokes as the Mountain Lions finished fifth at the first RMAC event of the season at Raccoon Creek Golf Course. Darwin finished in a tie for No. 12 in the 36-hole tournament.
Darwin's 4-over and 76 broke records for gross score and best round in relation to par set by
Laura Gritz in last season's RMAC Championship. Darwin tied for the tournament lead on scoring for par-3 holes and finished the tournament at 14-over par.
Michelle Romano took three strokes off of her first round score with a 78 today. It ranks her among the top five rounds in program history in her first college tournament. Romano finished in a tie for No. 14 overall in the tournament with a 159 at 15-over par.
Raquell Castillo and
Andrea Ballou rounded out the Mountain Lion team score with a pair of 80 rounds. Castillo recorded an 80 in yesterday's round and her 160 over 36 holes was her best career tournament score by five strokes. Ballou improved by five strokes over Monday's round and finished at 165 and in a tie for No. 30 overall today.
UCCS lowered its team score by 13 strokes from yesterday's round and finished the 36-hole tournament at 65 strokes over par. It was the best tournament score in relation to par in program history by 16 strokes and put the Mountain Lions four strokes behind Adams State and eight behind Colorado State-Pueblo.
UCCS will be in action for the third straight week at the Western New Mexico Fall Invitational. The Mountain Lions will travel to the Coldwater Golf Club in Goodyear, Ariz., for two rounds on Sept. 22-23.
