ResultsLITTLETON, Colo. – Raquell Castillo shot an 80 in the opening round and tied for No. 10 overall as the University of Colorado Colorado Springs sat in sixth in the Colorado Christian Invitational today at Raccoon Creek Golf Course. The Mountain Lions shot a 327 for 39 strokes over par for the third-best round in program history.
Castillo matched her single-best round of her career and lowered her score from last week's Wolf Pack Invitational by eight strokes. She recorded par on 12 of the 18 holes today to rank third among golfers who recorded pars.
Michelle Romano began her collegiate career with an 81 and in a seven-way tie for No. 16, and was helped by a pair of birdies in today's round. Alex Darwin and Jame Zook turned in scorecards of 82 and 84, respectively, to round out the UCCS team score in the first round.
The Mountain Lions are one stroke behind Montana State-Billings and two strokes behind Adams State. Metro State is leading the field with a 311, 16 strokes ahead of UCCS.
The second and final round of the tournament will tee off at 7 a.m., on Tuesday.
