COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team (10-2-1 / 6-2-1 RMAC) will compete at home for the final time of the regular season Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m. when its take on Colorado State-Pueblo (1-10-1 / 1-8 RMAC) at Mountain Lion Stadium.
UCCS shutout the ThunderWolves 3-0 the first time this season to take the first games in the Steel and Silver Cup. The Mountain Lions have won the cup every year in the competition featuring the common sports between the two programs. UCCS leads the series 8-0 after the women soccer win, the men's soccer win and tie, and the volleyball victory last night.
The Mountain Lions are coming off a 4-0 shutout of Adams State Friday night and are tied for second in the RMAC standings with Regis and are three points behind Metro State. Regis will travel to Colorado Christian on Sunday afternoon, Metro State will travel to New Mexico Highlands on Sunday afternoon. UCCS can clinch a tournament spot today with a win against CSU-Pueblo and a loss or tie by New Mexico Highlands.
The ThunderWolves are coming off a 1-0 loss to Fort Lewis. CSU-Pueblo is led on offense by Maya Rugg who has scored two goals on the year. The defense is led by goalkeeper Savannah Thompson, who leads the RMAC in saves.
The Mountain Lions are led on offense by RMAC All-Academic Second Team selection
Hannah Levett along with
Agnes Arnadottir who each has five goals.
Hannah Rather, an RMAC All-Academic First Team member, is one goal behind with four this season and leads the team with six assists. The UCCS defense is led by goalkeeper
Kelly Schroeder who leads the RMAC with seven shutouts.
Several Mountain Lions are in reach of career program records. Arnadottir is in a tie for third on the career points list and needs one point to move alone into third. Levett's nine career assists and is tied for third with
Kristin Preble and needs one assist to pass Preble and tie JessicaEscobedo for second on the career assists list.
Schroeder already has the UCCS career record with 13 shutouts is tied for ninth in the RMAC career records. She needs one more to move alone into ninth and three more to tie for eighth.
