If Friday's game at Mountain Lion Stadium had ended at 74 minutes, the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and the Metro State Roadrunners would have remained in a draw. By the actual end of the game, 16 minutes later, Metro State had scored three goals and shut the Mountains Lions out.

The Mountain Lions played aggressively and evenly until the first of Metro State's goals. From that point on, UCCS could never return to form and gave up two more goals to allow Metro State a 3-0 rout.

"We absolutely battled for 75 minutes but then had a big time mental lapse," said UCCS coach Henry Ellis. "We were all over them in the beginning, the first half was fantastic."

It wasn't until the second half that the Mountain Lions slowly began to break down, and by the 75th minute the breakdown became a full-on crisis. UCCS had five shots to Metro State's six in the first period. The Mountain Lions also made Metro State goalkeeper Dominique Griffith save three goals in the first period.

This transformed into two shots for UCCS and 13 for Metro State in the second period. Ellis noticed how this changed the game and noted how such a solid team like Metro State will capitalize.

"Give them a little opportunity, and [they] will take full advantage of it,” said Ellis. “(But) once we get a little more maturity, we'll start finding the back of the net."

Gustavo Velloso led the Mountain Lions with two shots and two shots on goal. Mike Mason also made an offensive showing, making two shots and one shot on goal.
