COLORADO SPRINGS - Brittany Subia scored with 39 seconds remaining to send the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs women's soccer team to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Midwestern State Mustangs Sunday afternoon at Mountain Lion Stadium.
Subia got the ball just to the left of the penalty area, dribbled across the middle and launched a right-footer into the upper right hand corner of the goal. It was Subia's second score of the season.
The goal was a near carbon copy of the Mustangs' first score. The difference was that Kelsey Hill's goal in the 52nd minute, her seventh of the season, was drilled into the opposite corner.
Up to that point, it was the Mountain Lions in control.
Brianna Guzzardo's unassisted goal in the 35th minute put UCCS up 1-0.
"I had an outlet pass (available), but my main objective was getting it into the middle and shooting to goal," said Guzzardo. "I took a couple of people on and placed it in the corner."

Lindsay Link to injuries, both in the first seven minutes of the match. Scheele returned in the second half but Link, the team's sweeper, did not. Her absence, coupled with the season-ending injury suffered by stopper
Jelisa Guy on Sept. 9, put the two Mountain Lions' first and last lines of defense on the bench.
"With Jelisa out and with Link, our last line of defense out, it tried our depth on defense," said UCCS coach Nichole Rick.

Chelsea George at stopper.
"
Chelsea George stepped up big; she really played well," said Rick. "We went from 'she's not playing at all' to 'OK, you're playing 90 minutes.'"
While George played well, the defense lost continuity. Midwestern State launched 20 of its 25 shots in the second half and the two that went in were both helped by defensive breakdowns. Other shots were thwarted by UCCS goalkeeper
Amie Kern, who had 12 saves in the losing effort.
Ashley Meek (2-1) replaced Heather Primavera in goal late in the first half to earn the win for Midwestern State (5-3).
UCCS (2-5-1) has now lost five straight matches and is winless in its past six.
"We make it harder on ourselves; it's almost all mental errors," said Rick. "We have a strong team. They're all individually good players but we just beat ourselves."
