Loss to Colorado Christian a new low

What has been a painful season for the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs soccer program got decidedly worse Friday as the Mountain Lions blew a two-goal lead and lost to the Colorado Christian Cougars 4-3 at Lakewood, Colo.

Prior to Friday's match, Colorado Christian was winless in 12 attempts and had been outscored by a staggering 75-3.

After Colorado Christian's Jon Gunderson gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute, the Mountain Lions looked like they would be able to extend the Cougars' record of futility.

Eric Foulk evened the match with a penalty-kick goal, CU-Colorado Springs'first of the season, in the 15th minute. Juan Nolasco gave the Mountain Lions a 2-1 advantage in the 29th minute, and Jason Brunner made it 3-1 in the 53rd minute. The two-goal lead was the largest held by CU-Colorado Springs (3-13, 1-10 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) this season.

Then things fell apart.

Mitchell Wingrove redirected a Ron Lewis pass in the 59th minute to close the gap to 3-2. Troy Johnson tied the match 10 minutes later. Wingrove scored again with just over six minutes remaining to give the Cougars (1-12, 1-10 RMAC) the win.
