HOW IT HAPPENED VS. SOUTH DAKOTA MINES
  • The Mountain Lions started on the defense as SDM was quick to put two points on the board, but a Hardrocker attack error allowed UCCS to log their first point. SDM went on back-to-back 3-0 scoring runs, leaving the Mountain Lions to trail 8-3. However, UCCS gained some momentum after two attack errors and a kill by Sydni Lafasciano earned the Mountain Lions three points. The next few minutes resulted in even action on both sides, with neither team gaining more than a two-point lead. Three attack errors for UCCS gave the Hardrockers an advantage, and the Mountain Lions found themselves in a four-point deficit shortly before the media timeout. Impressive kills by Nicole Himebauch, Payton Tompkins, and Lafasciano could not close the scoring gap fast enough, leaving SDM to claim victory in the first set, 25-17.
  • UCCS started off strong in the second set after Tompkins logged three consecutive kills. The Hardrockers responded with a 4-0 scoring run of their own, cut short by yet another Tompkins kill. The ensuing moments resulted in back-and-forth action, with neither team trailing by more than two, until kills by Sydnee Walker and Sydney Hyde earned the Mountain Lions an 18-14 advantage. UCCS held on to their lead for a few minutes, but SDM eventually overcame the deficit and claimed their second victory of the match, 25-23.
  • The third set was an even battle between the Mountain Lions and the Hardrockers. Despite Tompkins' 11 total kills, Aubrey Miller's 15 assists, and Alysse Marcoso's 14 digs throughout the match, SDM forced UCCS to trail for the majority of third set play. The Mountain Lions suffered a 19-25 loss in the final set and were ultimately handed a 3-0 loss by the Hardrockers.

HOW IT HAPPENED VS. MIDWESTERN STATE
  • Multiple kills by Sydney Hyde and Nicole Himebauch earned UCCS an early 4-2 lead over the Mustangs. Aubrey Miller entered the match and made an immediate impact, logging a dig that allowed the Mountain Lions to extend the gap in points. Kills by Himebauch, Sydnee Walker, and Hyde put UCCS on a 3-0 scoring run, cut short by an impressive play from Nyle Mathis. A service ace by Giselle Cazares gained some momentum for MSU, and they found a way to close the scoring gap to 11-9. However, consecutive kills by Hyde, Himebauch, and Payton Tompkins put the Mustangs in an even larger deficit just before the media timeout. The action went back and forth for the next few minutes, with both teams logging outstanding kills and impressive digs. MSU was forced to call a timeout to regroup as they continued to trail behind the Mountain Lions, but kills by Walker and Lafasciano combined with a service ace continued to earn UCCS a leading advantage. An attack error by the Mustangs sealed a 25-21 win in the first set for the Mountain Lions.
  • Attack errors on both sides resulted in an early 2-2 draw in the second set, but a quick kill by Himebuach pushed the UCCS ahead. The Mustangs found some momentum with a 3-0 scoring run, but a stunning kill by Walker cut it short. Both teams traded points over the next few minutes until they found themselves tied 12-12. The energy shifted to the MSU side as they swiftly logged six points, forcing UCCS to trail 18-14 and call a timeout. The Mustangs continued to dominate, going on an 8-0 scoring run and ultimately claiming a 25-15 victory in the second set.
  • A slew of substitutions hit the court as the third set began. Karlee Pinell was the first Mountain Lion to log a kill, followed by Hyde and Tompkins logging one kill each and earning UCCS an early lead. The Mustangs continued to trail in points, finally forced to call a timeout after the Mountain Lions logged a 4-0 scoring run. In response, MSU recorded a 4-0 scoring run of their own. However, their momentum was cut short as UCCS scored three consecutive points. The Mustangs could not overcome the deficit and continued to trail behind the Mountain Lions for the entirety of the third set, allowing UCCS to collect a 25-21 win.
  • The action was fairly even on both sides to start the fourth set, with the score being tied 4-4 just moments after the starting whistle blew. Kills from Lafasciano and Hyde jumpstarted a massive wave of momentum for the Mountain Lions, and MSU soon found themselves to be trailing 16-10. After a service error resulting in a Mustang point, UCCS was back on the attack with a 5-0 scoring run, swiftly putting MSU behind 20-10. Mustang players Aubree Bunker and Nyle Mathis each logged a single kill, but their efforts were not enough to overcome the deficit. The Mountain Lions dominated 25-13 in the final set of the night, claiming an overall 3-1 victory over MSU.
