COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team defeated St. Edward's University in four sets and finished the Mountain Lion Classic with a 3-1 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After benefitting from 0-3 and 0-4 runs on the first set, St. Edward's found themselves with an early 5-10 lead over UCCS. The Mountain Lions, however, responded with their own 5-0 run, which included back-to-back kills by Payton Tompkins, to knot the set up at 10 apiece. UCCS followed that up with a 7-1 run, thanks to multiple key blocks by Sydnee Walker and Nicole Himebauch to take a 20-16 lead. The Hilltoppers stormed back with a 5-0 run to regain the advantage at 20-21. 3-0 runs by both teams sent the set into extra points with a 25-25 tie. St. Edward's took the initial set point, but UCCS went on a 3-0 run to end the first set with a 28-26 win.
- After starting the second set back-and-forth, UCCS went on an 8-3, run that featured kills from Himebauch, Sydni Lafasciano, and Sydney Hyde, to get the early advantage at 13-8. The two teams then traded multiple small runs to get the score to 20-16 with the Mountain Lions still in control. UCCS ended the set with a 5-3 run to win 25-19 and take control of the game heading into the third set.
- After the third set started back-and-forth, without a lead larger than two points for either team, St. Edward's rattled off four straight kills and gained a 7-10 lead. After more back-and-forth volleyball the Mountain Lions managed a 4-1 run, with kills by Hyde and Lafasciano, which tied the game at 18-18. The Hilltoppers responded with a 7-4 run to secure a 25-22 win in the third set.
- St. Edward's once again got the first advantage of the set after a 1-5 run got them to a 7-10 lead over the Mountain Lions. After each team exchanged small runs, UCCS jumped onto a 10-1 run, including three kills and an ace from Lafasciano, and two kills from Hyde, and won the set 25-20 to end the game in four sets.
MATCH STATISTICS
- Lafasciano led the game in kills, tallying 13. She also recorded three of the Mountain Lions six aces and recorded a game-high 17.5 points.
- Alysse Marcoso led the game in digs with 19, while Tompkins and Lafasciano joined Marcoso as the three Mountain Lions with double digit digs.
- Aubrey Miller led UCCS in assists with 17, while Althea Morris led the game with 43.
- UCCS led the Hilldiggers in hitting percentage (.257-.161), blocks (16-1), and errors (12-32).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Lafasciano recorded new career highs in blocks with three, and points with her 17.5.
- Himebauch tied her career high with eight total blocks, which she set against Colorado Mesa on September 27, 2025. She also tied her career high with two solo blocks, which she's recorded two other times, including once earlier this year.
- UCCS ends the Mountain Lion Classic with a 3-1 record.

- The Mountain Lions head to Golden, Colo. to take on Colorado School of Mines at CSM Lockridge Arena as they begin RMAC conference play. The game will take place at 6 p.m. (MT) on Friday, September 11.
