HOW IT HAPPENED
- Women's soccer Senior Day got off to hot start when senior Luka Johnson scored her first goal of the season in the fifth minute. Taylynn Levi played a through ball to Elise Broberg, whose shot was pushed wide by MSU Denver's Morgan Shirley into the feet of Johnson.
- Through the first 15 minutes of the game, the Mountain Lions dominated possession and showed off their team creativity with quick one-to-two touch passes in the middle to distribute the ball out wide. At the 16th minute, E. Broberg displayed some wizardry on the ball, beating her defender and providing a dangerous cross to Ally Henry, who was unable to get her head on the ball.
- UCCS' second goal came at the 35th minute, when E. Broberg snuck a free kick won by Abby Stassi around the MSU Denver wall and into the bottom right corner. Three minutes later, Levi powered into the 18-yard box and crossed the ball to Stassi, whose shot was saved by Shirley. Brooke Pavlich found herself in the right place at the right time and collected Shirley's rebound to score, eight minutes after entering the game.
- The second half was quiet compared to the first, with the Mountain Lions registering only two shots in the first 15 minutes. E. Broberg provided multiple threatening crosses, from free kicks and corners, but none of her teammates were able to get meaningful connections on the ball. Cassidy Gottesman and the Roadrunners recorded their first shot of the game at the 76th minute.
- Once she came on in the 67th minute, Henry found Pavlich on a cross in the box twice, but the Mountain Lions were unable to convert. At last, Mattea Morris recovered Regan Dare's corner, beat her defender, and launched the ball to a wide-open Sophia Broberg, who headed the ball into the right corner.
- On the day, the Mountain Lions stifled all offense from the Roadrunners, outshooting them 23 to one. The Mountain Lions possessed the ball for 73% of the game.
