HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mountain Lions wasted no time on Friday night as senior Luka Johnson netted the second fastest goal to open a match in UCCS women's soccer program history, doing so in 51 seconds. The score came off a deflected cross from junior Brooke Pavlich, as Johnson was in prime position in front of the net to send the ball into the bottom left corner off her right foot.
  • Another opportunity for UCCS came in the eighth minute of action as Pavlich sent a header into a wide-open left side of the net, but the Mountain Lions would be ruled offsides to nullify the goal.
  • In the 32nd minute, the Yellow Jackets found a great scoring chance of their own as Ivy Agee broke through the UCCS defense to find herself wide open in front of the net. Agee sent her shot to the top of the net, but freshman goalkeeper Lucy Kapranos made a leaping save off her fingertips to preserve the Mountain Lion lead.
  • Despite the early goal, the UCCS offense slowed down a bit, as it only tallied just two shots for the remainder of the half, taking the 1-0 lead into halftime.
  • The second half began slowly but picked up in the 60th minute when a foul in the box against the Mountain Lions led to a penalty kick attempt for BHSU's Bailey Smith. Smith sent her shot to the left side of the net, but once again, Kapranos made an impressive diving save to keep her team ahead.
  • The Mountain Lions continued to struggle finding chances in the second half, only taking two shots through the first 35 minutes, but the defense kept limiting good looks for the Yellow Jackets to preserve the lead.
  • In the 78th minute of action, senior Taylynn Levi logged her 6,147th career minute at UCCS to become the all-time leader in minutes played in program history.
  • In the 86th minute, BHSU's Ally Boysen tried to connect on a shot, but Kapranos' efforts once again stopped a potential Yellow Jacket goal.
  • Two minutes later, BHSU's Parker Treide had a good look from the right side of the net, but Madison Groshong came up with a block to secure the 1-0 victory.
