FARMINGTON, N.M. – The No. 9 University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team took 16 shots in a 0-2 loss to Fort Lewis College to open RMAC play.

All-Time Series: The Mountain Lions move to 11-16 all-time against the Skyhawks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Skyhawks got off to a hot start, as Emma Gurule took the team's first shot of the match in the fifth minute and rolled the ball past a diving Lucy Kapranos into the lower left corner of the net to go up 1-0 early.
- Later, in the 26th minute, a UCCS turnover would lead to another goal for Fort Lewis. Maleia Dayao would take a shot from the right side of the net and bury it into the bottom left corner to extend the lead to 2-0.
- In the 38th minute, junior forward Brooke Pavlich broke away down the field off a pass from Addison Buehler and tried to sneak a shot into the upper right corner of the net, but it was saved to keep the score at 2-0.
- UCCS would have a couple more chances to score in the final minute of the first half, as Taylynn Levi and Charlize Ellsworth both sent crosses to the front of the goal, but were not able to connect. The Mountain Lions would head into half time down by two.
- The Mountain Lions' best scoring chance early in the second half came in the 53rd minute on a free kick at the top right corner of the box by Elise Broberg. She would send the ball to the top left corner of the goal, but a save by Trinity Lujan put an end to the chance.
- The Skyhawks had another great scoring chance in the 67th minute when Jenna Salazar beat all Mountain Lion defenders, leaving Kapranos to crash to the top of the box. Salazar ultimately sent her shot off the crossbar for a UCCS goal kick instead.
- The Mountain Lions struggled to build any momentum offensively for the rest of the match, as they went on to drop their first RMAC contest of the 2026 campaign.
STATS FROM THE GAME
- The Mountain Lions put five of their 16 shots on goal, as FLC put four of its nine on goal.
- Kapranos tallied two saves on four shots on goal.
- The Mountain Lions led the game in corner kicks with seven to the Skyhawks' one.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Friday evening was the Mountain Lions' first loss to FLC since Sept. 30, 2016, winning nine matches in between.
- Malia Groshong has now played all 90 minutes in every match this season.
UP NEXT
- The Mountain Lions will head to Gunnison, Colo. on Sunday, Sept. 20 to take on Western Colorado University at 1 p.m.
