ARCATA, Calif. – The No. 8 nationally ranked University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team opened their west coast trip on Thursday afternoon with a scoreless draw at California State Polytechnic University Humboldt.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two sides traded scoring opportunities in the early stages of the match, with Cal Poly Humboldt registering the first shot of the afternoon in the fifth minute before Elise Broberg answered for the Mountain Lions in the eighth minute with a low strike that was collected by Lumberjack goalkeeper Ariana Beddoes. UCCS generated another quality look in the 14th minute when a shot from Mattea Morris was blocked by the Humboldt defense.
- The Mountain Lions began to take control of the attacking opportunities near the midway point of the opening half, firing three shots in a span of less than three minutes beginning with an attempt from E. Broberg in the 20th minute. Taylynn Levi followed with a shot on frame that was turned aside by Beddoes in the 21st minute before Brooke Pavlich sent an attempt just over the crossbar in the 23rd.
- The Lumberjacks recorded their lone shot on goal of the opening half in the 26th minute, but UCCS' freshman goalkeeper Lucy Kapranos was there to deny Heidie Munoz and keep the match scoreless. The Mountain Lions continued to apply pressure down the stretch, with Pavlich forcing Beddoes to gather another save in the 36th minute before UCCS earned three corner kicks across the final seven minutes of the period, but the Humboldt defense held firm to send the match into halftime scoreless.
- Cal Poly Humboldt came out of the halftime break with an early opportunity, but Kapranos kept the Lumberjacks off the scoreboard by turning away a shot from Isis-Jade Bryant in the 46th minute. UCCS responded with a pair of attacking chances from E. Broberg, including a shot that forced Beddoes to reach to the top of the net for a save in the 58th minute.
- The Mountain Lions continued to apply pressure as the second half progressed, earning four corner kicks over a 19-minute span while creating additional opportunities from Malia Groshong and E. Broberg. Despite the sustained pressure, Beddoes and the Lumberjack defense continued to keep UCCS off the scoreboard.
- Humboldt generated a late push with three shots over the final 11 minutes, but the Mountain Lion defense remained organized to preserve the clean sheet. UCCS also continued their push in the closing minutes, with Pavlich putting another attempt toward goal in the 89th minute before the match ultimately finished in a scoreless draw.
STATS FROM THE GAME
- The Mountain Lions held the advantage in each of the primary offensive categories, outshooting Cal Poly Humboldt by a 10-6 margin while holding a 4-2 edge in shots on goal and an 8-1 advantage in corner kicks.
- E. Broberg paced the UCCS attack with a game-high four shots, placing two of her attempts on frame, while Pavlich followed closely behind with three shots and one attempt on goal.
- The Mountain Lion defense limited the Lumberjacks to just two shots on goal across the match, with Cal Poly Humboldt managing just one attempt on frame in each half.
- Kapranos played all 90 minutes between the pipes for UCCS and stopped both shots she faced to record her second clean sheet of the season.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Kapranos recorded her second shutout of the season on Thursday, which puts her in a tie for the conference lead in the category.
- The Mountain Lions have displayed a balanced attack on the offensive side of the ball with five different players recording at least 10 shots on the season, led by Pavlich with 14.
