Hayden Cuevas highlighted a small group of student-athletes from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team competing at the Mines Midweek Meet on Wednesday as he unleashed a personal best NCAA provisional qualifying toss in the men's hammer throw.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Competing in the invite section of the men's hammer throw, Cuevas provided the fireworks for UCCS on Wednesday in Golden as he unleashed a personal best and NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 58.78m, finishing in fourth place behind only an unattached athlete and a pair of Rams from Colorado State University. Earlier in the day, the Mountain Lions had a pair of sophomore student-athletes competing in the open section of the men's hammer throw. Trevor Moore led the way with a third place finish in the 10 person field and came within eight centimeters of his personal best with a toss of 47.80m, while Alex Johnson surpassed his previous personal best in the event by more than one and a half meters with a mark of 45.39m that placed him seventh overall.
- The Mountain Lions claimed the top two position in the men's 400m dash as senior Sebastien Jean posted a season-best converted time of 47.57s for a first place finish in the 24-person field, narrowly edging out teammate Joshua Gross, who crossed the line in second place with a season and personal best converted time of 47.75s. Freshman Hayden Fox was the 11th place finisher in the event with a converted time of 49.44s, while junior Nigel James finished 14th overall with a converted time of 50.14s in his first appearance of the year. Freshman Brayden Candelarie rounded out the Mountain Lions' competitors in the event as he took 18th place with a personal best converted time of 50.84s.
- In the women's 400m dash, freshman Michelle Headley raced to a personal best converted time of 58.32s for an eighth place finish in the 19-person field, while freshman Bentley Fitzgerald secured an 11th place finish with a converted time of 1:01.28.
- Freshman JD Packard was the lone short sprinter in action on Wednesday for the Mountain Lions and he notched a personal best performance in the men's 100m dash, finishing 10th overall out 19 competitors in the event with a converted time of 11.18s.
BEYOND THE RESULTS
- Cuevas posted a personal best mark in the men's hammer throw for the second consecutive week as his toss of 58.78m improved him to No. 3 all-time in UCCS outdoor program history in the event.

- The Mountain Lions will continue their busy week tomorrow as a bulk of the team will compete in Canyon, Texas on day one of West Texas A&M University's Jo Meaker Classic & Multi beginning at 8 a.m. (MT).
