GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs track & field team had a small group of throwers kick off the outdoor season on Thursday at the Maverick Early Bird Open in Grand Junction, Colo.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountain Lions had a pair of sophomore student-athletes notch massive personal best marks in the men's hammer throw as Trevor Moore surpassed his previous best in the event by more than seven-meters and claimed a fourth-place finish in the 13-person field with a mark of 47.88m, while Alex Johnson usurped his previous PR in the event by more than 3.5 meters with an eighth-place toss of 43.79m.
- In the men's javelin throw, sophomore Jordan Mora posted a mark of 50.17m in his season-opener to earn a third-place finish in the seven-person field. Junior Grayson Hardy was the fifth-place finisher in the event as he started his outdoor season with a toss of 42.34m.
- Sophomore Dyanna Parra led the Mountain Lions in the women's javelin throw as she finished third overall out of 11 competitors in the event with a toss of 35.01m, while senior Nicole Castillio claimed sixth place overall with a mark of 32.68m.
UP NEXT
- The Mountain Lions will have a group of men's and women's triple jumpers competing tomorrow in Pueblo, Colo. for the first day of the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Invitational. The men's triple jump will begin at 12 p.m. with the women's triple jump following the conclusion of the men's competition.
