PREVIEW | Fourth-Seed UCCS Heads to Texas for Regional Tournament

THIS WEEK'S MATCHUP
  • COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team is headed back to the NCAA postseason, earning its second consecutive berth in the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament. After reaching the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament championship game for the third straight season, the Mountain Lions secured the No. 4 seed in the eight-team regional bracket.
  • UCCS will face No. 5 seed Adams State University on Friday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m. (MT) in Denton, Texas. Top-seeded Texas Woman's University will host the regional at Kitty Magee Arena.
  • Friday's matchup marks the third meeting between the Mountain Lions and Grizzlies in just 15 days. UCCS claimed both previous contests, defeating Adams State 72-63 on Feb. 26 in Colorado Springs before earning a 74-71 victory in the RMAC Tournament semifinal last Friday in Grand Junction.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The No. 2 seed in the RMAC Tournament, UCCS faced No. 3 seed Adams State in the semifinal round on March 6 in Grand Junction, Colo., defeating the Grizzlies for the second time in eight days with a 74–71 victory.
  • Amyah Moore Allen led all scorers with 35 points after shooting 13-of-28 from the field and 6-of-7 from the free throw line. She added four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Mya Wilson chipped in nine points, while Rylie Ottmann contributed eight points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Brynae Stewart recorded eight points and a game-high nine rebounds to go along with two assists.
  • UCCS shot 39.7 percent from the field, 31.8 percent from three-point range, and 64.3 percent from the free throw line.
  • In the RMAC Championship game the following night against No. 1 seed Colorado Mesa, the Mountain Lions trailed by as many as 14 points in the second quarter but battled back to trim the deficit to one, 58–57, entering the fourth quarter.  Colorado Mesa pulled away in the final period, outscoring UCCS 34–10 to secure the tournament title with a 92–67 win.
  • Moore Allen led the Mountain Lions again with 30 points on 13-of-24 shooting and 4-of-6 from the line. She tied Jayla Jackson-Allen for the team lead with six rebounds. Stewart and Ottmann each added eight points, while Stewart also recorded four rebounds, three assists, and one block.
  • As a team, UCCS shot 37.1 percent from the field (26-70), 26.7 percent from three-point range (4-14), and 73.3 percent from the free throw line (11-15).
 
NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY
  • UCCS is making its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance and second consecutive trip to the South Central Regional. The Mountain Lions enter this year's tournament with a 3–4 all-time record in NCAA postseason games.
  • The program's first appearance came in 2015 when UCCS defeated CSU Pueblo (73–63) and Colorado Christian (83–77) in Canyon, Texas before falling to top-seeded West Texas A&M in the regional championship.
  • The Mountain Lions returned in 2016 but were eliminated in the opening round by Lubbock Christian, 70–43.
  • In 2017, UCCS advanced to the semifinals after an 89–73 win over Eastern New Mexico in Pueblo, Colo., before falling to Angelo State, 68–65.
  • UCCS returned to the regional tournament last season after capturing the program's first RMAC Tournament Championship. The No. 7 seeded Mountain Lions nearly upset No. 2 seed Lubbock Christian, but fell in the quarterfinals, 68–65.

  • UCCS ranks among the RMAC leaders in several categories this season:
    • 1st – Free throw attempts per game (20.1)
      1st – Turnover margin (+4.9) – 17th nationally
      2nd – Turnovers forced per game (18.6)
      3rd – Field goal percentage (43.6%) – 28th nationally
      3rd – Scoring offense (70.5 ppg)
  • Amyah Moore Allen leads the Mountain Lions and ranks among RMAC leaders:
    • 2nd – Scoring (21.2 ppg) – 8th nationally
      2nd – Field goals made (251) – 6th nationally
      3rd – Steals (69 / 2.2 per game)
      4th – Blocks (34 / 1.1 per game)
  • Breelyn Robinson leads the team with 37 three-pointers made, while Rylie Ottmann owns the top three-point percentage on the team at 39.3%.
  • Moore Allen and Ottmann have started all 31 games this season.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES VS. ADAMS STATE
  • UCCS leads the all-time series with Adams State, 30–20, and has won three straight matchups, including four of the last five meetings.
 
SCOUTING NO. 5 SEED ADAMS STATE
  • Adams State enters the NCAA Tournament following a strong 2025–26 campaign in the RMAC. The Grizzlies average 69.5 points per game and hold a +5.1 scoring margin on the season.
  • Adams State's defense has been particularly disruptive, ranking 20th nationally in turnover margin and 44th in steals per game.
  • Offensively, Kiiyani Anitielu (16.4 ppg) and Taejhuan Hill (14.4 ppg) lead the scoring attack. Hill also leads the team on the glass with 8.1 rebounds per game.
  • Guard Elaina Watson has been a key playmaker and defensive presence, ranking 22nd nationally in steals per game (3.0) and helping fuel the Grizzlies' up-tempo style.
 
SCOUTING NO. 1 SEED TEXAS WOMAN'S
  • The No. 1 ranked team in Division II, Texas Woman's enters the tournament as one of the top teams in NCAA Division II, ranking among national leaders in winning percentage and statistical efficiency.
  • The Pioneers shoot 44.4 percent from the field (17th nationally) and hold opponents to just 34.4 percent shooting (16th nationally).
  • Forward Gabby Elliott headlines the roster after earning Lone Star Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors. She averages a double-double with 16.6 points per game and ranks fifth nationally in rebounds per game (11.9) while leading the conference in multiple categories.
  • Elliott is supported by guard Averee Kleinhans and guard Kayla Glover. Kleinhans leads the team in scoring (16.7 ppg), steals (41), and three-pointers made (37), while Glover leads the team with 82 assists.
 
SCOUTING NO. 8 SEED EASTERN NEW MEXICO
  • Eastern New Mexico averages 69.7 points per game, ranking second in the Lone Star Conference, while allowing 60.4 points per contest.
  • The Greyhounds hold a +9.3 scoring margin and shoot 41.6 percent from the field.
  • ENMU ranks seventh nationally in bench scoring (31.8 ppg) and averages 13.5 offensive rebounds per game.
  • Defensively, the Greyhounds force 20.17 turnovers per game (43rd nationally) and average 10.8 steals per contest while holding opponents to 37.7 percent shooting.
  • Julieta Ceja ranks eighth in the conference with 198 rebounds this season. Chloe Dallas, the LSC Newcomer of the Year, ranks among conference leaders in blocks and free throw attempts.

  • In her third season leading the program, head coach Misty Wilson owns a 63–30 record and has guided the Mountain Lions to three consecutive RMAC Tournament appearances.
