HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With a quick steak from Rylie Ottmann just ten seconds after tip-off, UCCS started off with the advantage as Jayla Jackson-Allen sunk an impressive three-pointer. Capitalizing on their momentum, the Mountain Lions went on a 7-0 scoring run, putting the Yellow Jackets in a 10-1 deficit. BHSU was forced to call a timeout in an effort to reboot their offense, and came back into the game with two converted free throws from Maureen Ulrich. Barreling down the right side of the court and beating a Yellow Jacket player 1-on-1, Amyah Moore Allen collected her fourth point of the game with a sneaky layup. Attempting to close the gap, Brinlee McRae buried the Yellow Jackets' first three-pointer of the afternoon, bringing BHSU within four points. Mya Wilson entered the game and had an immediate impact, scoring two points and assisting Breelyn Robinson's three-point bucket moments later. Alli Glasscock converted a layup 15 seconds before the break, but the Yellow Jackets remained in a 19-14 deficit heading into the second quarter.
  • Bradie Schlabs started off scoring for BHSU by collecting a defensive rebound and going coast-to-coast for a layup. Robison responded quickly with another three-point basket, earning UCCS a six-point lead. The Yellow-Jackets picked up the pace by going on a 6-0 scoring run, effectively tying up the game 22-22. However, Moore Allen put the Mountain Lions ahead moments later by assisting Jackson-Allen's converted layup. Emily Cooper answered with a three-point bucket, pocketing BHSU's first lead of the game. Both teams traded shots for the remaining four minutes of the first half, with neither team trailing by more than two points.
  • The Yellow Jackets were the first to put points on the board in the third quarter as Audrey Norville scored her second bucket of the afternoon. Moore Allen answered nine seconds later with a stunning three-point basket, earning UCCS a single-point lead. BHSU found some momentum and went on a 6-0 scoring run, leaving the Mountain Lions trailing by three. Both teams continued to trade baskets until the score was tied 52-52 with two minutes remaining in the third period. Layups from Bradie Schalbs and Taylin Serlen put the Yellow Jackets back on the advantage, until Brynae Stewart sank two from the charity stripe and Gia Bradley recorded her first bucket against BHSU. UCCS found themselves in a three-point deficit heading into the final break.
  • Jackson-Allen started the Mountain Lions off strong with four early points, as Moore Allen followed up with two additional points from the paint. Audrey Norville converted two free throws to earn a single-point lead for the Yellow Jackets, jumpstarting a back-and-forth game yet again. UCCS trailed 69-65 with four minutes remaining in the final quarter, until Jackson-Allen skillfully sank a three-pointer from way back, closing the gap to one point. Moments later, Stewart buried a three-point shot to put BHSU in a two-point deficit, which they would not be able to overcome in the next minute and half. As the final whistle blew, the Mountain Lions secured a 73-70 victory over the Yellow Jackets, effectively ending BHSU's three-game winning streak.
