COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs softball team dropped game one 7-4 against Texas A&M University Kingsville and ran wild on the University of Minnesota Crookston to win game two 10-2 in six innings.

All-Time Series: The Mountain Lions all-time record is now 1-3 against the Javelinas following the game one loss, and 2-0 all-time against the Golden Eagles with the game two win.
HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME ONE – TEXAS A&M KINGSVILLE
- UCCS starting pitcher Charlie Hoover struggled in the top of the first, giving up three runs, one on a wild pitch, the other two coming from a two-run double from Javelinas' right fielder Laniee Ballin.
- The Mountain Lions threatened in the bottom of the first, but Ballin gunned down Jacqueline Berkowitz at home to hold UCCS scoreless.
- The Javelinas opened up the third inning with back-to-back solo home runs by Isa Hernandez and Dakota Hernandez, ending Hoover's day with five runs allowed in 2.0+ innings of work.
- The Javelinas tacked on two more runs in the top half of the third as a double steal and an error resulted in a run and a runner on third, who scored on a sac fly by pinch hitter Ayla Gonzales, giving themselves a 7-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third.
- The Mountain Lions broke the dry spell in the bottom of the third with Addy Baxter's first collegiate home run, which made the score 7-1.
- UCCS pinch hit Katie Steinmetz in the bottom of the fifth inning, and on the first pitch she saw, Steinmetz hammered the ball to left center for a solo home run that cut the deficit to 7-2.
- UCCS started the bottom of the sixth inning with a leadoff double, ending the Javelinas starter, Kristina Nash's, incredible day. The Mountain Lions jumped on Javelinas reliever Esther Martinez with an RBI double on her first pitch courtesy of Gianna Pancost.
- A passed ball advanced pinch runner Alyssa Gutierrez to third, setting up UCCS' fourth run of the day on a sac hit by Genesis Jaramillo as UCCS cut the lead to 7-4 heading into the seventh inning.
- Martinez bounced back in the bottom of the seventh after the rough sixth inning and shut down the UCCS offense, holding on to the 7-4 Javelinas win.
STATS FROM GAME ONE – TEXAS A&M KINGSVILLE
- The Mountain Lions recorded their four runs on 11 hits in their third game of the Southern Colorado Crossover while drawing one walk and striking out three times.
- Baxter and Steinmetz both recorded home runs today. For Steinmetz it was her second of the season, and for Baxter the first of her collegiate career.
- Eight of the Mountain Lions' 12 batters recorded a hit on Saturday morning, with Berkowitz leading the team with three.
- Hoover started in the circle for the Mountain Lions and allowed five earned runs in just 2.0+ innings of work as she gave up five hits, including two home runs. Janessa Giugliano came on in relief and settled in after a rocky start. In five innings of work, Giugliano allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and retired the last 11 batters she faced.
HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME TWO – MINNESOTA CROOKSTON
- Jennavieve Goldsworth caused chaos to score the first run of the game, leading off the game with a walk, followed by a stolen base, and then scoring from second on a wild pitch to give UCCS a 1-0 lead after the first.
- In the top of the third inning the Golden Eagles scored two runs on a Chayse Doering single after a Laynee Case error extended the inning.
- The Mountain Lions scored another run in the third inning with elite base running, as Alyssa Gutierrez walked, stole second, and proceeded to advance to third and score on two separate sac flies to tie the game at two apiece.
- UCCS worked across three runs in the fifth inning, using pure chaos on the base paths, stealing five bases and capitalizing on three throwing errors.
- UCCS ended the game in the bottom of the fifth as they scored five runs to run rule the Golden Eagles 10-2. The Mountain Lions scored their five runs off three bases-loaded single, a bases loaded walk, and ended the game on an error.
STATS FROM GAME TWO – MINNESOTA CROOKSTON
- Despite scoring 10 runs, the Mountain Lions were held to just four hits, three of which came in the final inning.
- Jennavieve Goldsworth was the lone Mountain Lion to record multiple hits, as she went 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs.
- Autumn Kunze pitched a complete game for UCCS today, going 6.0 innings, giving up two runs (zero earned) on six hits while striking out two.
- The Mountain Lions stole 11 total bases Sunday afternoon, led by Goldsworth's three. Gutierrez, Jaramillo, and Berkowitz also stole two bases each.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Addy Baxter launched her first collegiate home run in the third inning of game one.
- 11 stolen bases is the most team stolen bases in program history since at least 2015.
