Mountain Lions Fall to Yellow Jackets 112-81 at Home

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team allowed 66 second half points after a strong first half, dropping its second game of the season against Black Hills State University 112-81.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mountain Lions' shots were falling in the first half of Saturday's matchup, as the team shot 57.6 percent from the field and a strong 77.8 percent from three-point range. Marzouq Abdur-Razaaq led all players in scoring with 21 points and shooting 100 percent from behind the arc.
  • UCCS started the scoring with a contested layup from Brody Hull, and the team held the lead for the entirety of the first half. BHSU fell within one with just under 13 minutes left to play, but Abdur-Razaaq sank a three and followed it with a strong slam on the next possession to push the lead up to six. Evan McKean also had a strong shooting performance in the first half, shooting 2-of-2 from three-point range, as Xavier Martinez, Jezza McKenzie, and Hull all contributed to the team's three-point total with one apiece. The Mountain Lions would head into halftime holding a 49-46 lead.
  • The second half of Saturday evening's game took a complete 180-degree turn, as the Yellow Jackets quickly took over the lead. With 14 minutes left to play in the game, BHSU went on a 29-4 run, hitting three shots from behind the arc in the process.
  • The Mountain Lions were unable to keep pace with Black Hills State, as the Yellow Jackets shot 67.6 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from three while UCCS shot 47.8 percent and 30 percent, respectively. BHSU would hang on to a strong lead for the remainder of the game and claim a 112-81 victory over the Mountain Lions.
GAME STATISTICS
  • Abdur-Razzaq, Hull, and Evan McKean were the three Mountain Lions to finish in double figures on Saturday as Abdur-Razaaq led the team with 26 points.
  • The Mountain Lions finished with 20 rebounds to the Yellow Jackets' 36 with McKenzie leading the team with six.
  • The Mountain Lions shot 53.6 percent from the field (30-of-56), 52.6 percent from the three-point line (10-of-19) and 61.1 percent from the free throw line (11-of-18).
  • UCCS had 14 points off turnovers, 36 in the paint, three from second chances, 12 off fast breaks, and 31 from the bench.
           
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Evan McKean's 11 points were the second most he has scored this season, and his two three-pointers made were the most he has notched.
  • Abdur-Razaaq's 26 points were the second most he has scored this season.
  • Abdur-Razaaq's three made shots from three-point range were the most he has hit in the 2025-'26 campaign.
