HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Savea Mansfield opened up scoring for the Hardrockers, with a second layup scored by Carolina Ruiz Molina immediately after. SDM's early lead was short-lived as Rylie Ottmann converted two free throws, propelling the Mountain Lions to go on an impressive 12-0 scoring run. Ayianna Johnson entered the game and made an immediate impact, scoring two consecutive layups and earning UCCS a 16-5 lead over the Hardrockers. With a minute left in the first quarter, Breelyn Robinson collected her first three-point basket of the game, sending SDM into the second stanza trailing by 12 points.
  • Morning Grace Spotted Bear began the second quarter with a driving layup, closing the gap to ten points. Robinson quickly responded with another three-pointer. 20 seconds after entering the game, Gia Bradley buried her first shot, while Mya Wilson converted a layup moments later. With five minutes remaining in the first half, Brynae Stewart capitalized on a single free throw, pushing UCCS ahead to a 27-9 lead. After a two-minute scoring drought, Moore Allen successfully stole the ball in the paint and barrelled down the court, finishing with a layup. SDM answered with a layup of their own, but it was not enough to overcome their 23-point deficit.
  • For the third consecutive period, the Hardrockers put points on the scoreboard first with a converted three-point bucket from Ruiz Molina, who then went on to assist Alexis Backhaus' driving layup. Extending the gap, UCCS went on a 5-0 scoring run, earning a 43-19 lead over SDM. Moore Allen collected her third assist of the game with three minutes left before the final break, allowing Jayla Jackson-Allen to score her ninth point of the night. Lauren Herman converted a deep three for the Hardrockers with moments left on the clock, but the third quarter ended with the Mountain Lions ahead 54-29.
  • UCCS started off strong with a layup from Moore Allen, followed by a 5-0 scoring run to widen the gap in points even more. Rylie Ottmann sank her first three-pointer of the game with six minutes remaining, putting SDM behind 62-31. After a three-minute scoring drought, Reese Terwilliger bought her team some energy by collecting a rebound and two points. However, after Mia DiPuccio checked into the match and collected a defensive rebound of her own, UCCS kept the Hardrockers to two points in the final minutes of the game and effectively secured their 26-point lead as the final whistle blew.
