INSIDE THE MATCH UP
Final:  UCCS 85, REGIS 74
Records: UCCS 15-11 (10-8 RMAC), REGIS 2-22 (1-17 RMAC)
Location: Regis Fieldhouse | Denver, Colo.
Series: The Mountain Lions are now 18-45 all-time vs the Rangers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Mountain Lions picked up where they left off in Golden on Thursday night, jumping out to an early seven-point lead over the Rangers in the early going. Evan McKean led a balanced attach for UCCS, with seven Mountain Lions scoring in the first ten minutes of action at Regis Fieldhouse. Three point shooting continued to be a strong point for UCCS, going 50% in the first ten minutes from deep.
  • Down the stretch of the first half the Rangers would chip away at the Mountain Lions lead slightly, but ice cold three-point shooting would hold back their comeback efforts. The Rangers were strong in the paint, shooting and even 50% over the last 9:48 of the first half, but that included a startling 0-5 from long range. UCCS took advantage of the empty Ranger possessions and took the 36-32 lead into the locker room.
  • The Rangers would right the ship in the early minutes of the second half opening the period on a 16-10 run over the first five minutes and taking their first lead of the game, 48-46. The Rangers 7-10 from the floor with 1-2 from beyond the arc powered the comeback, with UCCS on their heels for the first time.
  • The lead wouldn't last for the Rangers, as UCCS responded with their patented offense who would shoot 54.5 percent to finish the game, including a decisive 12 points from Brody Hull over the last 14 minutes of play. Regis would return to missing three's going just 3-11 over those last 14 minutes, as UCCS sweeps the final road trip by earning the nine-point road victory in Denver.

STATS FROM THE DAY
  • Brody Hull led UCCS with 18 points for the second consecutive game. Xavier Martinez, Jezza McKenzie, and Evan McKean joined Hull as UCCS' four double digit scorers.
  • Hull, McKenzie and McKean all hauled in a team high six rebounds, with Martinez leading the way with six assists.
  • Mario Williams Jr. made up for his off day as a three-point shooter, rejecting two Ranger shots on the other end of the floor.
BEYOND THE BOX
  • The Mountain Lions snap a four-game losing streak vs Regis in Denver, winning the last two matchups after losing the eight games prior vs the Rangers.
  • The win, paired with Colorado Christian's loss at MSU Denver, clinches a RMAC tournament berth for UCCS, and solidifies the tournament field. Black Hills State, Colorado Mesa, Fort Lewis, CSU Pueblo, Adams State, Colorado School of Mines, New Mexico Highlands, and UCCS will play for the tournament title, with next weekend's games officially only deciding seeding for the tournament.
UP NEXT
  • The Mountain Lions finish the regular season at home with games vs New Mexico Highlands and Adams State this week.
