HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mountain Lions started off strong with a 7-0 scoring run, cut short by a kill from Morgan Munro. Jacie Kaniho collected a second point for Regis University, but the University of Colorado Colorado Springs answered quickly with kills from Sydney Hyde and Nicole Himebauch to earn the Mountain Lions a 9-2 lead. Scoring action went back and forth over the next few minutes, with neither team recording more than two consecutive points until UCCS went on a 6-0 scoring run to seal a 25-13 first win in the first set.
  • The Rangers were first to put points on the scoreboard with kills from Alayna Pruitt and Kailyn Polzin, but the Mountain Lions answered with a 5-0 scoring run to take back the lead. After conceding a few points to Regis, two kills by Payton Tompkins combined with a single kill from Sydnee Walker kept UCCS ahead 9-6. However, a 3-0 scoring run and multiple kills from Polzin earned the Rangers their first lead of the match, 12-11. Both sides of the court saw action over the next few minutes, until the Mountain Lions gained their momentum back and went on a 5-0 scoring run, forcing Regis to trail 20-16. Kills by Hyde, Sydni Lafasciano, and Karlee Pinell cemented a 25-18 second set victory.
  • Five players subbed into the match for the Rangers to begin the third set. Their attempt to gain energy with a new lineup proved successful as they went on an early 3-0 scoring run. However, their quick lead was throttled as kills from Pinell and Tompkins brought the score to a 3-3 draw. A slew of service and attack errors forced UCCS to trail 11-5 after Regis went on a 4-0 scoring run. The Mountain Lions were able to collect a 3-0 scoring run late in the third set, and an ensuing service ace by Walker closed the Ranger's lead to 20-18. Kills by Lafasciano, Tompkins, and Himebauch brought the score to a 22-22 draw, but a service ace from Madelyn Lynett forced UCCS to concede the third set 25-23.
  • The Mountain Lions earned two quick points to start off the fourth set, followed by a 6-0 scoring run to put Regis in an 8-1 deficit. Action went back and forth in the coming moments, with neither team scoring more than two consecutive points until UCCS went on a 5-0 scoring run to secure a 20-7 lead over the Rangers. Both teams collected kills in the coming minutes, but Regis could not overcome the Mountain Lion's early lead and lost 25-16 in the fourth set, allowing UCCS to claim a 3-1 victory.
