HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Colorado Mesa University started with possession as they kicked off the match, and quickly pushed the Mountain Lions into their defensive territory by logging six shots in the first ten minutes while keeping the University of Colorado Colorado Springs to zero shot attempts.
  • The Mountain Lions gained their first attacking play with a free kick taken by Casey Tadlock, who floated a cross towards the back post to connect with Madison Groshong for a header, but her shot bounced out of bounds past the right goalpost.
  • UCCS turned the tables in the 29th minute as Abby Stassi headed a corner kick from Viktoria Valdimarsdottir just past Keely Wieczorek's fingertips, forcing the Mavericks trail 1-0.
  • Seven minutes later, Ally Henry slotted a through-ball to Stassi on the run up the left side of the field, who drove downline and played a cutback cross to Taylynn Levi's feet. As Levi one-touched the ball into the lower left corner of the goal, the Mountain Lions earned a 2-0 lead.
  • Just 50 seconds after the second half began, UCCS gained a 3-0 advantage over CMU with a goal by Valdimarsdottir, despite Wieczorek's effort to keep the low shot from crossing the goal line.
  • After the Mountain Lions possessed the ball around the midfield area for a few moments, the Mavericks were forced into a deeper deficit as Tadlock secured the Mountain Lion's fourth goal of the match.
  • CMU found success in the 73rd minute of regulation as Olivia Barrett assisted Coral Turner for the sole Maverick goal against UCCS.
  • With 14 minutes left in the match, Luka Johnson nearly scored the Mountain Lion's fifth goal with a stunning shot inside the box, but a diving save by Maddy Eggert prevented a 5-1 score and transitioned CMU back up the field. Three minutes later, Sophia Broberg logged a similar shot to Johnson's but yet another skilled save from Eggert kept the Mavericks trailing 4-1.
  • CMU was able to record a few shots on goal in the final moments of regulation, but they could not close the three-goal gap and were ultimately handed their fourth loss of the season.
