INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – All three University of Colorado Colorado Springs programs eligible for the NCAA Power Index (NPI) are ranked among the top 10 in their respective South Central Region rankings in this week's NPI release. The rankings mark the first week of NPI rankings for Division II volleyball and the second week for soccer.
The 2026-27 academic year marks the first season the NCAA is using the NPI as the primary selection tool for determining the NCAA Division II Tournament field in most team sports.
The UCCS volleyball team debuts at No. 7 in the South Central Region with 57.757 NPI points. The Mountain Lions split two road matches last weekend, earning a 3-1 win at Colorado State University Pueblo on Friday before falling at Colorado Christian University on Saturday.
UCCS enters the week with a 13-7 overall record and an 8-2 mark in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play, currently sitting in a three-way tie for second place in the conference standings.
The Mountain Lions will travel to Denver this week for the RMAC Power Pod, beginning Thursday at 6 p.m. against Metropolitan State University of Denver. UCCS will then face Colorado State University Pueblo on Friday at 6 p.m. in a neutral-site match hosted by MSU Denver. Neither match will count toward the RMAC standings.
In women's soccer, UCCS remains at No. 5 in the South Central Region and No. 30 nationally in Division II with 57.974 NPI points.
UCCS posted a pair of shutout road victories last week, defeating New Mexico Highlands University, 7-0, on Thursday before earning a 5-0 win at Adams State University on Sunday. The Mountain Lions have won three consecutive matches while outscoring their opponents 15-0.
UCCS enters the final week of the regular season with an 11-3-2 overall record and a 7-2-1 mark in RMAC play. The Mountain Lions will close out the regular season at home, beginning Friday at noon against Colorado Mesa University before hosting Westminster University on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
The UCCS men's soccer team moved from No. 6 to No. 7 in the Super Region 4 with 57.757 NPI points. The Mountain Lions, who are 9-2-5 overall and 4-2-2 in RMAC play, split two road matches last week.
UCCS opened the week with a 1-0 shutout victory at Colorado Christian University on Friday before falling to Metropolitan State University of Denver, 3-1, on Sunday.
The NPI is being implemented at the NCAA Division II level for the first time this season and will serve as the primary selection tool for determining the NCAA Tournament field in most team sports. The formula considers wins, strength of schedule, quality wins and match location, including home, away and neutral-site results.
In volleyball and women's soccer, the South Central Region consists of programs from the Lone Star Conference and the RMAC. Following conference postseason play, the top six teams in the final NPI rankings will be selected for the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament, while the top eight teams in volleyball will advance to the South Central Regional Tournament.
Automatic qualifiers from each conference will also be factored into the respective fields.
In men's soccer, Super Region 4 includes programs from the RMAC, Lone Star Conference, California Collegiate Athletic Association, PacWest Conference and Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Following conference postseason play, the top 10 teams in the final NPI rankings will be seeded for the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Super Regional Tournament, with automatic qualifiers from each conference also factored into the field.
Beginning next Monday, Oct. 26, the NPI soccer rankings will be updated daily, with the daily volleyball NPI rankings beginning Nov. 2.
