Men's Basketball Falls 95-83 in Grand Junction

Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs men's basketball team can't overcome their slow start, loses 93-85 to Colorado Mesa University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • Colorado Mesa came out of the gate with blinding pace, as the Mountain Lions found themselves on their heels early in the match up. The Mavericks ambushed the Mountain Lions with a 30-13 run to begin the first half, as midway through the opening frame the Mountain Lions had their work cut out for them.
  • The Mountain Lions found some rhythm as time wound down in the first 20 minutes. UCCS chipped away at the lead, going on a 22-17 run of their own. Shooting was down from the Mountain Lion's average in the first half, as UCCS faced a sixteen point deficit at the break.
  • Both teams traded blows to begin the second half, as UCCS continued to try and cut into the lead of the Mavericks but struggled to make ground. As the half way point of the second half arrived, Colorado Mesa kept UCCS at an arms length leading 73-55 and growing the lead to 18.
  • UCCS was able to gain ground in the final minutes of the game, cutting the lead down to just seven with just over a minute to play. However, the effort was too little, too late, as the Mavericks grabbed the victory 95-83 on their home floor.

  • Marzouq Adbur-Razaaq had it going offensively scoring 30 for the Mountain Lions.
  • Xavier Martinez was unselfish for UCCS, notching nine assists.
  • Brody Hull was a difference maker for UCCS, collecting 11 points and finishing the game at +9.
