HOW IT HAPPENED
- For the second straight game, the Mountain Lions came out sluggish off the jump as they found themselves in an early 4-0 hole to begin the game. Fort Lewis would ride the early momentum, helped along by a few UCCS turnovers, forcing Jeff Culver to call an early timeout to get his team back on track. After the interruption, the Mountain Lions responded, as they embarked on a 15-6 run over the next five minutes to erase the deficit and build a five-point lead of their own at the midway point of the first half.
- Down the stretch in the opening half the pendulum swung back the way of the Skyhawks. UCCS was able to add a few more points to push their lead to as much as eight with just under five minutes to go, but Fort Lewis would battle back to even the game at 38 with three minutes to play. Over the last few minutes, the teams would trade blows, but neither could come away with a lead as the buzzer sounded for halftime with both sides knotted at 45 points headed to halftime.
- The trades continued as the action resumed in the second half, as the first ten minutes of the half featured three ties and four lead changes. With ten to play UCCS had the narrow three point lead over the Skyhawks, as Mario Williams Jr. was the star for the Mountain Lions in the half, having eleven in the first 9:35 of the half.
- In the final ten, Fort Lewis showed why they have gone unbeaten to this point in conference action, closing the door on UCCS. The Skyhawks would finish the final nine and a half minutes on a 25-16 run, as UCCS had a late push but it wouldn't be enough. Fort Lewis prevailed 90-84 on their home court to remain perfect in RMAC competition.
