HOW IT HAPPENED
-
The Mountain Lions started off aggressively on the attack, scoring just five minutes into the first half. As Miles Seminario barreled down the right side of the field, he got a shot off to the lower left corner of the goal which was saved by Sul Ross goalkeeper Benjamin Aviles. Luckily for the Mountain Lions, Nick Walker was racing towards the back post and was able to secure the first goal of the match.
-
Just 20 minutes later, Nick Walker beat Sul Ross's outside back in a 1v1 battle and ripped a shot to the right side of the net. The ball just barely hit the goalpost and bounced back into Lobo territory, allowing Aviles to make the save.
-
In a close scoring opportunity, Seminario played the ball through the Lobos defensive line and connected with Marcus Garcia, who went on to make a stunning touch around Aviles and shot the ball just wide of the net.
-
In the 51st minute, UCCS found the ball bouncing around their 18-yard-box. Sul Ross forward Jesus Duque was able to put the ball in the back of the net, tying up the game 1-1.
-
As Sul Ross took a corner kick seven minutes later, Lewis Coates gained possession just 20 yards out from the Mountain Lion's goal-line and volleyed it to the back post for a header attempt on goal. However, the game continued with an even score as the ball went wide of the net.
-
In an effort to score the third goal of the match, UCCS midfielder Dalton Uehling found room at the top of the box to rip a shot towards the bottom left corner of the goal, but was saved by Aviles in the 65th minute.
-
In a double-assist play, UCCS took advantage of a free kick in Lobos defensive territory. After the ball bounced around near the net, Diego Macias found Dillon Clarke, who headed the ball to Nick Walker and gave him the opportunity to score his second goal of the match. The Mountain Lions remained up by one goal for the remainder of the game.
