  • Records: UCCS (11-1, 3-0 RMAC) | CSUP (9-4, 4-0 RMAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • From the start of the first serve, both teams matched each other's output with neither team holding more than a two-point lead as they flipped the lead seven times.  Late in the action, Payton Tompkins put down a kill for the 15th tie of the set at 19-19.  Two kills each from Tompkins and Sydney Hyde gave the Mountain Lions the largest lead of the set, 23-20.  Setter Maylen Mitrovich connected with Hyde to give UCCS set point and forced the ThunderWolves to use a timeout.  Two serves later, the Mountain Lions earned the 25-22 set win on a service error from CSUP.
  • The Mountain Lions kept their momentum going into the second set. A tandem block from Nicole Martin and Rylee Pitts put the Mountain Lions on top, 8-4.  Audrey Dowd found Tompkins for another kill, keeping UCCS' lead at four, 11-7, but the home team gained its first lead of the set after a 5-0 run, putting UCCS in a 12-11 deficit.  Back-to-back kills from Sydnee Walker brought UCCS back into the set to knot the score at 15-15.  The blue and red found their drive and went on a 7-1 run to take a 22-16 lead.  The ThunderWolves were able to even the match at 1-1 with a 25-19 victory.
  • Similar to the second set, the Mountain Lions jumped to an early and comfortable lead in set three. Tompkins put UCCS on the scoreboard first with a kill.  Two attacking errors by CSUP, a Tompkins-Hyde block assist, and then a service ace from Martin gave UCCS a comfortable 5-1 lead.  Another Tompkins kill and another CSUP attack error put the visiting team's lead to 7-2.  The Mountain Lions started to struggle, committing four errors in the next seven rallies as CSU Pueblo came within two points of UCCS' lead, 9-7.  UCCS responded and went on a 4-1 run that featured two kills from Martin and a block assist from Martin and Mitrovich, forcing the Pack to call a timeout at 13-8.  The ThunderWolves had to burn their second timeout of the set after committing four errors as UCCS extended their lead to 19-12.  Leading 23-19, head coach Tara Hittle called a timeout and the break proved to be effective as Martin and Tompkins put down back-to-back kills to win the third set, 25-19.
  • CSU Pueblo rallied back in the fourth set, grasping an early 7-2 lead as the Mountain Lions committed three attack errors while the Pack chipped in three kills and an ace.  The ThunderWolves rolled to a 25-18 win, holding UCCS to just 10 kills, seven attack errors and a .075 hitting mark.
  • The fifth started out with the ThunderWolves snagging a 4-1 lead.  Kills from Tompkins and Rylee Pitts brought UCCS within one of the Pack, 5-4, but CSUP rattled off three straight points to favor the home team, 8-4.  After both teams switched sides, Walker and Hyde each chipped in a kill, but a UCCS service error took their deficit down to three to CSUP, 9-6.  After the ThunderWolves' Caelyn Gunn broke the school record with her 28th kill of the night, Martin and Michelle Fredrick blocked the next attempt to bring UCCS within two of CSUP, 12-10, but the Pack became the first opponent in 12 matches this fall to topple the Mountain Lions, 3-2, after taking set five, 15-11.
