HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In a heated matchup, both teams had opportunities to score within the first 20 minutes of the match. However, the first half remained scoreless between the Mountain Lions and Skyhawks.
  • Two minutes into the second half, a UCCS player lofted a free kick towards backpost, but the ball was headed out by a Fort Lewis defender, giving the Skyhawks a chance to transition down the field and rip a shot dead center on net. With a diving save by Hugo Sjoberg, the match continued on as a 0-0 tie.
  • The Mountain Lions attempted to get a goal ahead off a corner kick in the 55th minute, but a volley shot from Dalton Uehling was blocked by a Fort Lewis defender.
  • In the 58th minute, Skyhawk freshman Yohann Fila netted a goal by connecting with a through-ball from Alessio Andreottola. UCCS trailed by a single goal for the next 12 minutes, until Fort Lewis freshman Lorenz Guintini scored the Skyhawk's second goal of the match off an impressive cross from Andreottola.
  • UCCS was able to draw a free kick at the top of the box halfway into the second half. Mountain Lion defender Gustavo Diaz Avila blasted the ball towards the goal, but Fort Lewis' 6-man wall blocked the shot.
  • The Mountain Lions are able to score their first goal of the match by drawing a penalty kick in the 79th minute, UCCS forward Miles Seminario slipped the ball towards the lower right corner of the net after Skyhawk goalkeeper Lucas Martin guessed left, but it was not enough to tie up the match before the final whistle.
