All-Time Series: This is the first regular season meeting between the Mountain Lions and Falcons with UCCS taking the 1-0-0 advantage in the series all-time.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first grade-A chance went the way of the Falcons as AJ Heap, found herself in a 1v1 with Malia Groshong. Heap took Groshong wide to the left side of the frame, and shuffled possession between her feet and tried the far side but missed as UCCS escaped the first chance of the game.
  • The Mountain Lions responded with their first look in the 13th minute, as a bending cross found the foot of a sliding Abby Stassi, but as the leading scorer for UCCS was going to the ground she couldn't get much behind it as Trishelle Lopez made the save.
  • The Falcons looked destined for the first goal of the match in the 19th minute, as Kendall Rippley broke free on a beautiful ball over the Mountain Lions backline, but a heavy touch as she entered the UCCS 18 allowed Nylah Mirshafiei to jump on the ball and eliminate the opportunity.
  • Another Falcon breakthrough came in the 32nd minute as Zahra Friess split the Mountain Lions defenders and found herself alone with the keeper, but her left-footed shot missed just outside the right post for a UCCS goal kick.
  • The Mountain Lions nearly stole the ice breaker in the 35th minute as a poor turnover came right to the feet of Brooke Pavlich with the Falcon keeper out of frame. Pavlich got a little too much behind the shot however, as the shot sailed high over the frame and out of play.
  • Minutes later, Brooke Pavlich again drew Lopez out of the USAFA goal, a team save kept the game scoreless, but the rebound went right to Abby Stassi near the far post. Stassi, however, was not able to keep her redirection on net, as UCCS again came up empty on an open Air Force net.
  • Right before the end of the half, Zahra Friess won the foot race past UCCS' defenders but Nylah Mirshafiei was equal to the task as the horn sounded for half time with out a score.
  • 54th minute marked the first chance of the second frame, as a set piece from Raine Komata was right to the feed to Maddy Walsh who had a shooting lane, but again, let it go wide as UCCS escaped yet again.
  • The Mountain Lions finally broke the stalemate in the 73rd minute, as Mikaela Carlson went dancing through the midfield and unleashed a shot that was partially blocked just in front of the penalty dot. The deflection made its way right to Brooke Pavlich who didn't hesitate to fire it inside the right post as UCCS took the late 1-nil advantage.
  • Just under ten minutes later the Mountain Lions doubled their lead courtesy of Elise Broberg, as the Mountain Lions went streaking down the middle of the field. Broberg was unobstructed all the way to 25 yards in front of goal, where she unleashed a shot under the crossbar and into the twine as UCCS improved their lead to 2-nil in the 82nd minute.
