HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountain Lions opened Saturday afternoon's match with an emphasis on offensive pressure as they spent a large portion of the first five minutes in their attacking zone and saw Miles Seminario get an early look at the frame in the third minute for the first shot of the game.
- The flow of the game quickly flipped in the direction of Dallas Baptist following the early tempo from UCCS as the Patriots mounted their first threat of the match in the sixth minute when they were awarded a free kick from the just outside the top of the penalty box, but the shot was deflected away by the Mountain Lion defenders to keep the match scoreless.
- The Patriots found another strong scoring opportunity in the 19th minute as Colby deLeeuw won a contested ball around midfield and started streaking towards the goal before sending a cross to Leo Larson, who had a slight stutter upon receiving the ball and put a strong shot towards the frame from inside the penalty area, but UCCS defender Rory Scott was in position to block the shot and halt the threat.
- After the Mountain Lion defense thwarted a sequence in the 36th minute that saw the Patriots record back-to-back shots that were saved by UCCS, Dallas Baptist converted on an opportunity in the 39th minute with deLeeuw finding Caleb Centeno for the first goal of the game. UCCS managed one final shot before halftime that sailed wide of the frame off the foot of Dalton Uehling as the Patriots maintained their 1-0 lead into the break.
- The Mountain Lions earned a strong look at the frame early into the second half with Marcus Garcia finding some space for a shot that floated too high over the crossbar. Another opportunity for an equalizer came in the 62nd minute of play as Miles Seminario sent a beautiful cross from the left wing that found the foot of Cameron Radeke for the game-tying goal.
- Less than six minutes later, the Patriots put together an impressive offensive sequence that helped them regain the lead, 2-1, as Zachary Trimming threaded a pass to Centeno, who fired a right-footed shot past a diving Hugo Sjöberg for his second goal of the game.
- The Mountain Lions had no shortage of opportunities down the stretch as they once again were in search of an equalizer, getting seven shot opportunities across the final 20 minutes of action and putting five of them on frame, but DBU goalkeeper Patrick Banich held tight to keep the ball out of the nylon and lock down the 2-1 win for the Patriots.
