COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fie Steenberg of the Mountain Lion Women's Soccer program and Kyle Demos of the Mountain Lion Track and Field program have been named the 2023-24 Student Athletes of the Year, announced Wednesday by the University of Colorado Colorado Springs Department of Athletics.   
 
The Student Athlete of the Year Award is presented annually to the top male and female student-athletes who have excelled in the classroom and made a significant impact for their program.

"Fie has been a full-time starter in our nationally competitive program for all four years and served as captain for two," added Head Women's Soccer Coach J. B. Belzer. "Her technical standard and game IQ set her apart from peers and we look forward to watching her progression into the professional game.  UCCS Female Student-Athlete of the Year is a wonderful acknowledgement of her great contribution to and representation of Mountain Lion Athletics."

2024-25 Indoor Season Highlights:

• First Team All-RMAC in Shot Put

• Season Personal Best of 17.08 in Shot Put
• Third in Shot Put at RMAC Indoor Championships, scored six points for UCCS

Kyle Demos Career Highlights:

"Kyle is an outstanding student and athlete, no question," commented UCCS Track and Field Coach for Throws Keith Vance. "What makes Kyle special is his ability to lift up those around him, taking time to teach what he has learned and encourage excellence in others.  Greatness doesn't intimidate him; it inspires him and drives him to become better.  His excitement to push those boundaries in all aspects of his life has served him well, and will continue to make him successful in his endeavors.  I am proud to work with Kyle, as he exemplifies the culture of work and development in our program, brick by brick, earned and deserved.
