HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME ONE
  • After starting pitcher Kailey Bond retired the side in order in the top of the first, the Mountain Lions jumped on the board early when junior catcher Katie Steinmetz hit a two-run home run to left field to score Jennavieve Goldsworth.  UCCS would add more to their lead in the bottom of the second on an RBI single up the middle by Halley Redd to score Laynee Case and make it a 3-0 ballgame heading into the third inning.
  • Bond ran into some trouble in the top of the third when Regis loaded the bases with one out and headed into the bottom half of the inning with a one run lead after posting four runs on four hits and an error. The Mountain Lions also loaded the bases in the third inning when the first three batters reached safely. The next two batters, Case and Redd, would bat two runs in to retake the lead at 5-4 before a fielding error on the Rangers' shortstop plated another. Jacqueline Berkowitz would end the inning on a two-RBI single to left field to make it 8-4 in favor of UCCS heading into the fourth.
  • The Rangers would tally two more in the top of the fourth after loading the bases to make it 8-6 heading into the bottom half of the fourth. With one out in the bottom of the fourth frame, Steinmetz hit a solo shot to left field for her second home run and third RBI of the game to go up 9-6.
  • With both teams going scoreless in the fifth and sixth innings, Relief pitcher Lauren Falk struck out the first batter she faced in the top of the seventh and retired the next two on ground balls to lock in the 9-6 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME TWO

  • UCCS plated the second run of the game in the bottom of the third on a single to right field by Tayler McCombs to score Jennavieve Goldsworth. After tying the game at one run apiece, Regis took the lead back in the top of the fourth where they scored four runs to make it 5-1 heading into the bottom of the fourth. The Mountain Lions would fight to put up two more runs on a fielding error by the center fielder and an RBI double off the bat of Goldsworth to make it 5-3.
  • After holding Regis scoreless in the fifth and sixth innings, UCCS took the lead in the bottom half of the sixth, scoring four runs on four hits to go up 7-5 heading into the final inning of action.
  • The first batter for the Rangers in the top of the seventh inning, Olivia Wick, hit a solo home run on the first pitch she saw to lessen the UCCS lead to one run. Regis would go on to plate two more runs to take an 8-7 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
