HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME ONE
  • Chadron State came out swinging Saturday afternoon, plating four runs off of two home runs in the first inning of the four-game series. Mackenzie Scott led off the bottom of the first inning with a double to right center but was unable to score as the next three batters were retired.
  • UCCS started to mount a comeback in the second inning as Tayler McCombs and Laynee Case reached base safely before Jennavieve Goldsworth drew a walk to load the bases.  McCombs came home for the Mountain Lions' first score of the day when Bailey Olerich was put on base from the catcher's interference, resulting in McCombs scoring a run.  Jacqueline Berkowitz stroked a single to shortstop, scoring Case to cut into the Eagles' lead, 4-2.
  • The Mountain Lions gave up their third two-run home run of the game in the third inning before Kailey Bond relieved Autumn Kunze in the circle.  Bond was tested quickly as she allowed a single home run in her first batter before dropping the next three batters, including striking out the final two Eagles of the inning.
  • Trailing 7-3 to start the bottom frame of the fourth inning, Scott came to the plate and led off the inning with a solo shot to left field.  Katie Steinmetz' single down the right field line moved Bekowitz to third base.  With runners on second and third, a fielding error from the Eagles' left fielder brought in pinch runner Kaylee Holland and Bekowtiz for the second and third runs of the inning.  A CSC pitching change in the circle was welcomed by Case, who doubled to right center, scoring McCombs.  Case crossed home plate from Goldsworth's double for the game-winning run.
  • Bond and the Mountain Lions defense allowed just two hits and held CSC scoreless in the final three innings to take the series opening win, 8-7.

GAME STATISTICS | GAME ONE
  • Bond picked up her first win of the season, pitching five innings and allowing just one run on three hits and striking out four batters.
  • Four Mountain Lions recorded two hits as McCombs, Scott and Berkowitz each went 2-for-4 at the plate with an RBI.
  • UCCS plated eight runs on 13 hits and tallied five RBI as the Eagles committed two errors in the field.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GAME TWO
  • Hannah Hunt started in circle in game two of Saturday's doubleheader, fanning the first two batters she faced and leaving two stranded on base to end the hitless inning.
  • UCCS opened up the offense in the bottom half of the second inning, plating five runs on three hits.  After Case drew a walk and Hailey Redd reached on an error, Katelyn Kilgore hit a sac fly to score Case, which would be the eventual game-winning run.  Scott added an RBI off a single before McCombs posted a two-run homer, boosting UCCS's lead to 5-0 after two complete innings.
  • The Eagles were able to only scrape together one hit in the third inning before Kilgore blasted a two-run double to right field.  Berkowtiz hit a bases-load sac fly to plate Kilgore as Scott and Olerich added insurance runs from McCombs' double, extending the home team's lead to 10-0.
  • Both teams went three-up, three-down in the fourth inning as UCCS sealed the win in the top half of the fifth frame, allowing just two batters to reach base on two walks to shut out the Eagles, 10-0.
