HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mountain Lions won the tip but an early turnover led to a BHSU bucket for 2-0 lead.  Amyah Moore Allen quickly tied the game at 2-2 on a layup, before Maison White intercepted a pass that led to an Ellie Reynolds bucket.  Gia Bradley tied the game for the third time early on in the action with a driving layup, but the Yellow Jackets pushed their lead to 11-6 with five straight points.  Moore Allen converted her second old-fashioned three-point play of the quarter to bring UCCS within one point, 15-14, as Amaya Snowden came off the bench to net four points, including a layup under the basket that gave the Mountain Lions a 20-19 as time expired in the first quarter.
  • Both squads settled in and cooled off offensively in the second quarter.  Bradley drained a three-pointer from the right side to tie the game at 23-23, scoring the first bucket of the stanza for UCCS over three minutes into the quarter.  A left-handed layup from White gave the Mountain Lions their second lead of the game, 25-23.  Both teams continued to trade baskets as Breelyn Robinson banked in a 15-foot pull-up jumper from the right elbow, pulling UCCS back within one point, 30-29, with 2:05 left in the half.  A late foul by the Mountain Lions put the Yellow Jackets at the line where Kally Bertram drained both free throws to give BHSU a 35-31 lead at halftime.
  • Reynolds went right to work and opened the second half with a three-pointer followed by another trey from Breelyn Robinson on UCCS' next possession to tie the game, 37-37.  A 5-0 run by the home team pushed their lead to 44-39, but Emily Vidal drained the Mountain Lions' third three-pointer of the quarter to bring the Mountain Lions within three points, 45-42, at the media timeout.  White converted UCCS's third three-point play of the afternoon, with 3:37 left in the quarter, bringing the Mountain Lions back within two of BHSU, 47-45, but the Yellow Jackets ended the quarter on a 7-0 run to extend their lead nine points, 54-45.
  • Bradley netted the Mountain Lions' first points of the final stanza with a deep three-pointer to end a 10-0 BHSU run.  UCCS would put together their own 5-0 scoring spree with back-to-back layups from Snowden and Moore Allen and a free throw from Moore Allen that cut the Mountain Lions' deficit to six points, 59-53.  Bradley hit another huge three-pointer from the left side behind the arc, her third of the game, putting UCCS within three, 63-60, with 4:15 left in regulation.  Trailing by four points, Rylie Ottmann passed the ball in on a set play under the Mountain Lions' basket and moved into action where she was left wide open for a three-pointer to bring UCCS within one, 68-67 with 61 ticks left in the game.  Ottmann brought the black and gold with one point again, 69-68 after making the first of two free throws.  The Mountain Lions had back-to-back possessions to take the lead in the final minute, but two missed layups and three made free throws from the green and yellow sealed the game as BHSU notched the home win, 72-68.
