Amyah Moore Allen's career outing.
INSIDE THE MATCH-UP
Final: UCCS 63, CSUP 59
Records: UCCS (13-9, 9-6 RMAC), CSUP (15-9, 10-6 RMAC)
Facility: Massari Arena | Pueblo, Colo.
All-Time Series: UCCS holds a 25-42 all-time record vs. the ThunderWolves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first quarter belonged to the ThunderWolves with CSU Pueblo owning a seven-point lead after the first ten minutes at 22-15. Amyah Moore Allen was the star of the period for UCCS as she drained 11 of the Mountain Lions' 15 to start the game. Despite leading in the foul category with CSUP being whistled for seven fouls to the Mountain Lions' three, UCCS couldn't cash in from the charity stripe, making just 5-10 free throws. The Mountain Lions' struggles from the line, paired with the ThunderWolves 3-4 from deep, found UCCS chasing after one-quarter of play.
- As the horn rang for the second quarter media timeout with 4:58 to play in the half, it was a whole new ball game for the Mountain Lions. UCCS entered the timeout on a 9-0 run over the previous 1:43 of gameplay, with Amyah Moore Allen set to hit the line for the three-point play out of the timeout. She ultimately would miss the and-one opportunity, but the run gave UCCS their first advantage of the evening at 26-25. Tomia Johnson for the ThunderWolves finally broke the streak hitting a layup, and an and-one off a Maison White foul to give the hosts the lead back, as the teams began to trade buckets. A beautifully executed passing play fed Landri Hudson for a triple with just 39 seconds to go to give the T-Wolves the halftime lead at 34-31 after a tightly contested first half.
- As the second half got underway, again it was Moore Allen leading the charge for UCCS as she hit a layup and a triple, before feeding Ellie Reynolds for a three of her own. The buckets created the 7-0 run for the Mountain Lions over to kickstart their half, as Moore Allen's total ballooned to 25 with seven minutes to play in the third quarter. When the third quarter media break arrived with 4:50 to play, the ThunderWolves had yet to score a bucket, going 0-7 over the first 5:10 of the second half. Alisha Little finally coffined the curse after 7:10 of play with a back-down layup, giving CSU Pueblo their first points of the half after going 0-9 to start the frame. The shooting woes continued for the rest of the quarter for the hosts, as Alisha Little hit both buckets in the frame for CSUP with the Mountain Lions dominating the third 18-4 to take a 49-38 lead to the final 10 minutes.
- The Mountain Lions' hot streak began to cool as the T-Wolves began to heat back up in quarter number four. After hitting their first points of the quarter, it took UCCS six minutes to find the bucket for the second time. The Pack was able to cut the lead to four at 55-51, but Breelyn Robinson answered the call for UCCS hitting a big three to give UCCS some cushion back. Alisha Little hit the free throw line with 1:02 to play, hitting both to cut the lead to five at 60-55, but Amyah Moore Allen continued to punish on the other end on the ensuing possession to push her total to 35 and UCCS' lead to seven at 62-55 with 44.6 seconds left to play. Pueblo hit back-to-back baskets to bring the score to 62-57 before being forced into the foul game with less than twenty seconds to play. A buzzer beater layup wasn't enough for the Pack as UCCS weathered the late storm, taking the road victory 63-59.
