HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Hardrockers hit the first basket of the game before White netted back-to-back buckets for the Mountain Lions for their first four points on the scoreboard.  An early South Dakota Mines three-pointer was answered on the next possession by Ellie Reynolds who banked in a three to tie the game, 7-7.  In a quarter that featured seven ties, Amaya Snowden came off the bench and notched two straight layups to give the Mountain Lions their first lead of the game, 15-13.  Both teams continued to trade baskets and remained tied at 17-all after one-quarter of action.
  • White continued her scoring prowess with her eighth point of the game to open the second quarter before Moore Allen broke another tie to put UCCS back on top, 19-17.  A 6-0 Hardrockers run put the Mountain Lions in a 25-21 deficit, but the black and gold stormed back and went on an 11-0 run, highlighted by two three-pointers from Breelyn Robinson.  Robinson started the scoring spree on a set in-bounds play and drilled a three-pointer from the right wing only to complete a four-point play.  South Dakota Mines was held scoreless for nearly six minutes before Savea Mansfield nabbed a steal and a bucket as time ran out, cutting in UCCS' lead, 32-27, at the half.
  • The Hardrockers came out of the intermission putting on offensive pressure, starting with four straight points to bring them within one of UCCS, 32-31.  Moore Allen sank a three-pointer to break almost a six-minute span without a field goal by the Mountain Lions at the 7:35 mark. The home team jumped into a 10-1 run before Krystina Hagood ended the spree with 3:23 left in the quarter to cut into South Dakota Mines' lead, 41-38.  Snowden picked up a loose ball in the paint and finished the play with a turnaround layup before Mya Wilson chipped in two points to give UCCS a 42-41 lead after three full quarters.
  • Starting the final stanza with a one-point lead, the Mountain Lions went off offensively in an attempt to put the game away.  Robinson sank her third three-pointer of the night to cap a 9-2 run by UCCS, four of which came from Moore Allen.  White sandwiched a timeout with a bucket on each end, giving the Mountain Lions their largest lead of the night, 55-45, with six minutes to go in regulation.  UCCS rolled to a 64-49 win for their fourth straight win over South Dakota Mines.
