COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's basketball team dominated Westminster University from start to finish, earning an 82-45 victory at the Gallogly Event Center Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

UCCS started this afternoon's game hot, opening the first quarter with a 10-0 run fueled by Ayianna Johnson and Amyah Moore Allen, who collected every point for the Mountain Lions during that run. A strong defensive effort forced WU to just 3-of-12 shooting from the field in the first quarter, with the Griffins' first basket coming over five minutes into the game. Brynae Stewart and Breelyn Robinson each added four points of their own and after a late three-pointer by Ellie Reynolds, UCCS led WU 22-8 at the end of the first quarter.

Johnson and Moore Allen picked up where they left off for the Mountain Lions, opening the second quarter with seven combined points. Stellar play by Jayla Jackson-Allen stifled the Griffsecond-quarterarter comeback attempt, scoring ten crucial points to silence the WU attack. A three-point play by Jackson-Allen ended the half for UCCS, who went into halftime leading 39-29.

Making five of their first seven field goal attempts of the third period, the Mountain Lions kept their foot on the gas pedal by extending their lead to nineteen with an 11-2 run. Efficient shooting and strong defense were the key to the Mountain Lions' third quarter, outscoring WU by eight points and going into the final quarter leading 58-40.

A tough driving layup from Jackson-Allen and a three-pointer from Moore Allen got the fourth quarter going for the Mountain Lions as UCCS opened their final quarter with a 7-2 run. After trading several possessions, the Mountain Lions strung together another 16-2 run extending their lead to 37. The UCCS defense was relentless in the fourth quarter, holding WU to only five points and a scoring drought that lasted 6:18. A pair of free throws by Grace Stanley and a driving layup by Mia DiPuccio ended the game for the Mountain Lions as UCCS beat WU 82-45.

Moore Allen recorded her first double-double of the season, leading the Mountain Lions in points and rebounds with 17 and 10 respectively, while Jackson-Allen had her second most efficient night of the season, shooting 6-of-8 from the field (75 percent) in route to 14 points.

The Mountain Lions won this game by 37, marking the largest victory of their young season. On the flip side, UCCS held WU to their lowest point total of the season, allowing just 45 points in the game.
