HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a three-minute scoring drought to start off the game, Amyah Moore Allen started to put points on the scoreboard with an impressive spin-move and finish off the glass. Nearly halfway through the first quarter, Sawyer Stoebner converted both free throw attempts and tied up the game 4-4. After finding Mya Wilson wide open on the transition, she was able to chip in three points by burying her first shot attempt of the game. With two minutes left in the first quarter, both teams started to score buckets left and right, and ended with BHSU trailing 14-10 just before the break.
  • The Yellow Jackets started off strong by converting two early free throws, bringing the score within two points. Ellie Reynolds entered the game for the first time and made an immediate impact, finishing a three-point shot and giving the Mountain Lions a 17-12 lead. After drawing a large number of fouls and McRae's converted layup, BHSU tied the score 21-21 with five minutes left in the second quarter. Schlabs went on to score a wide-open shot from the left side of the court, and the Yellow Jackets took the lead for the first time. Reynolds responded by quickly driving to the line and scoring a nifty layup, which put UCCS back on the winning side with just three minutes left in the first half. Schlabs earned a basket seconds before the halftime buzzer sounded off, tying up the game once again.
  • Heading into the second half with a 28-28 score, BHSU was put back in the lead after going on a 5-0 scoring run. UCCS scored their first bucket after a five-minute scoring drought, bringing the score within three points. Moore Allen converted a stunning three-pointer with two minutes remaining in the third quarter, while Emily Cooper responded with a three-pointer of her own. The scoreboard reflected a 43-39 losing score for UCCS heading into the fourth quarter.
  • Moore Allen quickly put BHSU on the defense with a driving layup, but the Yellow Jackets responded with a 5-0 scoring run. Moore Allen scored her 20th point of the game to end their streak, but it was not enough to take the lead. Cooper was invaluable to BHSU in the final quarter of the game, converting three three-point shots and putting UCCS behind by six. Rylie Ottmann contributed three points to the Mountain Lions' score and earned some momentum for UCCS. However, Cooper sealed the Yellow Jackets' 61-56 win with a single converted free throw in the last 30 seconds of the game.
