  • Records: UCCS (3-4, 0-1 RMAC) | #14 CMU (9-1, 1-0 RMAC)
  • Facility | Location: Gallogly Events Center | Colorado Springs, Colo.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mavericks started off strong with a three-pointer from Jenna Krise. The Mountain Lions responded quickly with a hook shot from Ayianna Johnson, bringing the score within one - the smallest gap UCCS would trail by for the night. Both teams missed scoring opportunities over the next two minutes, until CMU overcame their drought and went on a 9-0 run. Jayla Jackson-Allen ended their run with a layup, bringing the score to 5-16. With two minutes remaining before the break, Ellie Reynolds scored the only UCCS three-pointer of the first quarter.
  • UCCS began the second quarter with three new players on the court, bringing some newfound momentum to the Mountain Lions. Jackson-Allen began the scoring by putting three points on the board and brought the score within eight. After three minutes passed with no action, CMU player Mykaela Moore assisted Jenna Krise for a three-point bucket, propelling both teams to trade buckets for the remainder of the second quarter. When the halftime buzzer went off, UCCS trailed 25-32.
  • After missing buckets and collecting rebounds, both teams struggled to score in the first few minutes of the third quarter. However, the Mavericks logged their largest scoring run of the game (14-0), pushing the Mountain Lions to an even greater deficit. Shortly after coming off the bench, Brooklyn Hurtado converted both of her free throw attempts, bringing the score to 35-57 when the third quarter ended.
  • UCCS and CMU traded baskets for the majority of the fourth quarter, until the Mavericks went on a 6-0 scoring run in the last 3 minutes of the game. Despite keeping CMU to just 16 points in the last quarter, the Mountain Lions could not overcome the deficit and ended on a 47-73 loss.
