INSIDE THE MATCHUP
  • Final Score: W, 80-66
  • Records: UCCS (3-3, 0-0 RMAC) | UCO (1-4, 0-0 MIAA)
  • Facility | Location: Hamilton Fieldhouse | Edmond, Okla.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • On the Mountain Lions' second possession of the game, Rylie Ottmann drew a foul and made the first of two free throws to put UCCS on the scoreboard, 1-0.  The Bronchos Bobbie Fougquet grabbed a defensive rebound on Ottmann's second attempt and hit a three-pointer on the other end of the court to put her team up, 3-1.  UCCS answered when Amyah Moore Allen found Ayianna Johnson for a layup that knotted the game at 3-3.  Ottmann later found Breelyn Robinson who sank a deep ball before Mya Wilson put back an offensive board that pushed UCCS' lead to 8-3 just three minutes into the game. The home team responded with an 8-2 run that gave them their second lead of the game 11-10, before they finished the opening stanza outscoring UCCS 5-0 to take a 16-12 hometown lead.
  • Jayla Jackson-Allen started her seven-point second quarter performance with a three-pointer that cut into UCO's lead, 17-15.  Jackson-Allen would then net five of the Mountain Lions' 10 points in their 10-2 spurt that put them back on top of UCO, 22-19, with 5:28 left in the half.  Brooklyn Hurtado would help UCCS regain the lead after multiple lead changes when she netted back-to-back baskets, giving UCCS a 26-23 lead with 4:13 left on the clock.  Ellie Reynolds closed out the first half scoring three of the Mountain Lions' last four points, as the black and gold went into halftime with a three-point lead, 30-27.
  • The third stanza began with an old-fashioned three-point play from Wilson before Johnson netted four straight points for the Mountain Lions, giving them a comfortable 37-30 advantage.  UCO went on a mini run of their own, outscoring the Mountain Lions 7-2 to cut into UCCS' lead, 44-39, heading into the media timeout.  After the 90-second break, Johnson sparked a 13-6 surge for the Mountain Lions with a hook shot in the lane, before Moore Allen nabbed a steal and took it to the other end of the court for two.  Moore Allen accounted for six of UCCS' final 13 points as the black and gold owned a 57-45 lead going into the fourth quarter.
  • Moore Allen picked up where she left off in the third quarter, netting an and-one and then draining a long three-pointer as she scored six of the Mountain Lions' first nine points of the final quarter.  UCCS hit on 3-of-4 field goals from three-point range and kept the Bronchos at bay, outscoring UCO in the last 10 minutes of action, 23-21, to take home the win, 80-66.
