All-Time Series: UCCS is 0-3 all-time against the Pioneers. Tonight's game was the first time TWU has faced the Mountain Lions on their home court inside the Gallogly Events Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Mountain Lion fans cheered as UCCS won the tip-off and gained the first bit of momentum. Breelyn Robinson put the first points on the board with an impressive three-point shot. The Pioneers quickly responded with a 7-0 run before Amaya Moore Allen scored one of her two free throws. Junior forward Brynae Stewart subbed in at 5:43 and made an immediate impact by slipping a pass right past a TWU player towards Moore Allen who went on to score a driving layup, closing the gap down to three-point game. Following the first media timeout of the game, the Pioneer forward Gabby Elliott scored a jumper, earning TWU an 11-6 lead. With 40 seconds left in the first quarter, Moore Allen scored the last UCCS field goal before the break. However, the Pioneers still led by 13 points going into the second quarter.
  • An early three-pointer by Jayla Jackson-Allen started a 7-0 run by UCCS after a tough first quarter. Moore Allen put the Mountain Lions back on the offense by consecutively scoring a layup and a two-point jumper, then immediately blocking a shot on defense. Jackson-Allen hit a three-pointer while Rylie Ottmann secured a layup and later hit a free throw in the last 50 seconds of the quarter, but it was not enough to secure a lead and UCCS trailed 37-26 when the halftime buzzer sounded.
  • Two good free throws from Elliott started off the third quarter in TWU's favor. Johnson responded with a layup and hook shot, keeping the score within one-point difference. Both teams traded baskets for the next few minutes, keeping the game interesting. Ottman and Mya Wilson both subbed into the game within the last two minutes of the third quarter and logged a defensive and offensive rebound, respectively. The Mountain Lions trailed by three going into the fourth quarter, 54-51.
  • With Moore Allen's two made free throws, UCCS trailed by a single point in the first minute of the fourth quarter. However, the game turned in TWU's favor after the Pioneers went on an 8-0 run. After re-entering the game with four minutes of play left, Moore Allen logged two steals and one layup for the Mountain Lions, earning the UCCS offense some momentum and energy. Even with Johnson's layup and Wilson's last-minute three-pointer, the Mountain Lions could not overcome the deficit, falling to the No. 3 ranked Pioneers.
