HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Mountain Lions jumped out to grab the lead in the first ten minutes of the contest with Xavier Martinez sparking the offense with an early triple to get the Mountain Lions rolling. Brody Hull was a big part of the run as well, scoring eight for UCCS on their way to a 28-19 lead midway through the first half.
  • The Mountain Lions continued to maintain the advantage down the stretch of the half as they led 52-38 at the break, with the Mountain Lions controlling play on a 22-19 run in the final ten minutes of the half. Six different Mountain Lions were involved with the effort, giving UCCS the 14-point advantage at the half.
  • Cameron began to battle back at the beginning of the second half of play, as the Aggies gained four of the first five baskets of the second half, over a 3:44 second span. UCCS wouldn't let the hosts gain too much ground however, as UCCS still owned an eight-point lead midway through the half.
  • Cameron continued to make up ground as time ticked off the clock to the final buzzer, cutting the lead down to as little as three at 86-83 with just two minutes left in the game. The Mountain Lions, however, would build out the lead back to six as the Aggies resorted to the foul game. The time would run out on Cameron as their early deficit was just too much to overcome, with UCCS earning their first win of the season 91-85 in Oklahoma.
