COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team finished with a season-best .386 hitting percentage in a 3-0 victory over New Mexico Highlands University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountain Lions' offense got off to a hot start on Friday night, posting a .341 hitting percentage while tallying 19 kills in the first set. After falling down 6-3 early, UCCS took the next seven points to take a lead that the team would not give up. The Cowgirls eventually fell within two to bring the score to 22-20 but kills from Kinley Gomez and Nicole Martin pushed the Mountain Lions to a first set victory.
- UCCS took over the second set quickly, as the team pulled away with an 11-3 lead with kills from Sydney Hyde, Sydnee Walker, Payton Tompkins, and Martin. The Mountain Lions would go on to end the second set 25-12 with a .545 hitting percentage as Martin and Rylee Pitts had the team lead in kills with three apiece.
- The third set featured four tied scores and three lead changes, all occurring within the first 11 points. A NMHU set error gave the Mountain Lions a 6-5 lead that they would hang onto to take the final set of Friday's match 25-18. UCCS once again notched a hitting percentage of above .300 while holding the Cowgirls to .160.
MATCH STATISTICS
- The Mountain Lions had two players tally double digit kills, being Tompkins and Gomez with 10 apiece.
- Mackenzie Ransom was the team leader with 12 digs.
- Maylen Mitrovich led the team with 21 assists, as Audrey Dowd tallied 17 of her own.
- Gomez' 10 kills in 11 attempts gave her a .909 hitting percentage as she finished with no attack errors.
- UCCS led the match in kills (46 to 27), assists (41 to 26), digs (41 to 25), and hitting percentage (.386 to .128).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- The Mountain Lions' 23rd win of the season ties a program best. The team's 11 home wins also matches a program record for most in a season.
- Tompkins' .429 hitting percentage is a new career high for a single match.
- The Mountain Lions' .386 hitting percentage on Friday night was the team's season high.
- UCCS is now 13-2 in three-set matches this season.
- Friday night's win was the Mountain Lions' 11th straight victory.
