HOW IT HAPPENED
- Just 61 seconds into the match the Orediggers were awarded with a penalty kick on a challenge from goalkeeper Nylah Mirshafiei who came out to try and clear a loose ball. Bella Campos was the attacker who collided with Mirshafiei, and Callie Fuhr stepped up to the dot to convert the penalty and give Mines the early 1-0 lead.
- Six minutes later the Mountain Lions found the equalizer. The play began with a go ball for Elise Broberg down the near sideline which the sophomore winger sent to the center of the 18. Waiting there was Abby Stassi who elevated to get a beautiful header inside the near post. The goal was Stassi's team-leading ninth of the year and pulled the Mountain Lions and Orediggers even.
- With just over 20 minutes remaining in the first half Luka Johnson forced a turnover at midfield and created a opportunity for the Mountain Lions to take the lead. After a give and go at the arc with Abby Stassi, the ball was dropped back for a crashing Emily Aguilar who rang it off the middle of the crossbar as UCCS narrowly missed netting their second goal of the half.
- The Orediggers pulled back in front in the 61st minute on a header from Natalie Rouse that beat Nylah Mirshafiei in the confusion in front of the net.
- UCCS tried to get the goal back just six minutes later, once again, as a free kick was earned by Elise Broberg on a Natalie Rouse foul that saw her booked on a yellow. Jessica Rockwell swung the set piece into the box on the ensuing direct kick with Malia Groshong redirecting the header over the bar.
- The Mountain Lions did find the net in the second half with less than ten minutes to play on a shot from Brooke Pavlich that looked like it hit the post and bounced to Viktoria Valdimarsdottir how touched it in, but upon further discussion the officials waved it off.
- The Mountain Lions clawed down to the final moments, but couldn't find the equalizer, as the Orediggers hand UCCS their first RMAC loss, 2-1.
