DENVER, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs volleyball team finished with a .299 hitting percentage in a 3-1 victory over Regis University on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- UCCS freshman Sydney Hyde tallied three early kills through the first 14 points as the score landed at seven apiece. From there, the score would be tied three more times before the Mountain Lions took a 13-12 lead to force a Regis timeout. The back-and-forth battle would continue until the Rangers matched the largest lead of the first set when they went up 20-17. A kill by Payton Tompkins would then spark an 8-1 UCCS run as the Mountain Lions took the first set 25-21, hitting .520 in the process.
- Regis held a lead through the first 15 points of the second set until an ace from Sydnee Walker tied the score at eight apiece. UCCS would take the next five points to go up 13-8 and force the Rangers to burn both timeouts. Regis would then go on a 12-4 run to retake the lead. Despite three late kills by Walker, UCCS could not climb back, as the Rangers took the second set 25-23.
- The Mountain Lions took an early 9-4 lead as Tompkins recorded a kill and two service aces. Regis would take the next point before UCCS tallied on seven more in a row, with Michelle Fredrick notching two kills of her own. The Mountain Lions held onto the lead as they took the third set 25-10, featuring four late kills by junior Nicole Martin.
- Two service aces from Maylen Mitrovich propelled the Mountain Lions to a 7-2 lead to begin the fourth set of Friday's match. Regis would then go on a 13-7 run to take a 15-14 lead, but the UCCS offense did not waver. Five different Mountain Lions would record a kill late in the set to win 25-21.
MATCH STATISTICS
- The Mountain Lions had two players who tallied double-digit kills, as Martin and Tompkins both ended with 12.
- Mackenzie Ransom and Tompkins led the team in digs, both finishing with 10.
- Audrey Dowd and Mitrovich led the team with 20 assists apiece.
- UCCS led the match in kills (55 to 50), assists (48 to 44), service aces (10 to 5), digs (51 to 48), and hitting percentage (.299 to .194).
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- UCCS has now claimed a season sweep over Regis for the second time in program history, the last coming in the 2007 season.
- UCCS finished with 10 service aces, establishing a new season-high in a four-set match.
- Martin's .550 hitting percentage was her second-highest of the season, and third-highest for a UCCS player in a single game overall in 2025.
- Tompkins' 16.5 points tonight were a season high for UCCS in a four-set match.
- The Mountain Lions' 17 attack errors were the second lowest of the season in a four-set match.
