Abby Stassi Nets 2 Goals, Leads Women’s Soccer to Dominate Win Over Regis

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Colorado Colorado Springs women's soccer team defeated Regis University 3-0 Sunday afternoon to extend their undefeated streak to nine games (8-0-1).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first scoring chance of the game came in just the 3rd minute as Abby Stassi headed the ball just over the Regis goal.
  • The Mountain Lions added three shots to their total after a corner in the 16th minute, but the Rangers survived the attack as the final sailed over the net.
  • UCCS continued their strong start, setting up another scoring opportunity in the 27th as Luka Johnson rocketed the ball off the post.
  • The Mountain Lions finally broke through in the 30th minute as Johnson found Stassi all alone in the middle and she netted the wide-open shot for her team leading 7th goal.
  • Stassi scored again in the 37th minute as she snuck the ball past the Ranger goalkeeper with help from a long assist from Jessica Rockwell.
  • Regis Defender Brielle Bickham received a red card in the 56th minute for violent behavior after getting tangled up with Brooke Pavlich.
  • UCCS almost iced the game in the 59th minute on a corner kick, but Regis Goalkeeper Helen Stegner was just able to turn away Malia Groshong's shot with an incredible save.
  • Noelia Garcia sealed the win for the Mountain Lions in the 89th minute to push the final score to 3-0.
 
STATS FROM THE GAME
  • The Mountain Lions outshot Regis in both total shots (25-5) and shots on net (15-2). UCCS also held possession for 68% of the game as they looked to be in total control all throughout the day.
  • Stassi scored two of three UCCS goals and her 7th and 8th on the season. She is now the lone team leader in goals and points (19) after being tied with Brooke Pavlich entering today.
  • Taylynn Levi's assist in the 89th minute extended her team lead in assists to five.
  • Nylah Mirshafiei converted on both of her two save opportunities. With today's clean sheet she now has six on the year, all coming in her last seven games played.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • UCCS is 8-1-1 in their last 10 games against Regis and has won two in a row. UCCS was 1-10-0 prior to these last 10 games.
  • The Mountain Lions continue to remain undefeated this season in RMAC play as they advance to 5-0-1.
  • Jessica Rockwell's assist in the 37th minute was her first point of the season. She is the 14th Mountain Lion to record a point so far this year.

  • UCCS travels to Golden, Colo. to kick off a two-game road trip, beginning against #11 Colorado School of Mines. The game will take place at CSM Stermole Soccer Stadium at 6:30 p.m. (MT).
